I wanted to buy a faster lens for low light and have found a Sigma 18-35 F 1:8 on an on line store (B&H). It is about $300 less than in a store. Does anyone have any experience with this store or any on line lens buying. I'm a bit nervous but it is $300.
I've used B&H several times - good service - no problems with returns - and have found the things - including a camera I bought - to be as I expected. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
@hnb128 B&H is practically my sole source for all things photography. I primarily order online, but whenever I'm in NY I stop by to visit the store in person (yes, it's actually a huge brick & mortar store that happens to also sell online). You won't be disappointed. If you're confident that is the lens you want, you will receive a good product and they will stand by it.
I've not used B&H but by the sounds of things they measure up to the mark. I just wanted to relay my own experience of online shopping for cameras and accessories which has been universally positive. I've had items from far and wide (USA, Hong Kong and, of course, UK). I had a problem once with one accessory and this was replaced promptly and without question. I guess it comes down to the same as high street stores - you need to seek out the reviews, ask advice, and take all the sensible precautions, but in the end you'll have to go with your instincts! Best of luck and enjoy your new lens.
They sell new warrantied items or very specific used items. Funny, but great story about them. They are closed from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning with internet sales opening up Saturday evening and I purchased a lens online with them Saturday evening, and on Sunday got their weekly ad showing the lens for less. I called customer service and in less than three minutes I was reimbursed the difference and an apology for the confusion.
I also get all my darkroom paper and supplies from them and have been completely happy.
