Q re: loading photos to iPad as portfolio

October 24th, 2017
I would like to be able to load groups of photos to my iPad or iPhone to display as a "portfolio" - for lack of a better word. For example, i might want to put all my halloween haunt photos, or all my algonquin photos, into one file on my iPad or iPhone so i can do a quick "showing" to family or friends...

and i am curious as to the best way to do this...

i can transfer the files to my iPad thru iCloud... and organize into specific topics in separate files... however, this doesn't seem to give me a slide show option... i have to click in and out of each image...

i might be able to do what i want thru lightroom, but i find it takes up ridiculous amounts of space on my iPad / iPhone... and at the moment, my iPad seems to be having trouble even accessing LR...

possibly i could do what i want thru iPhoto, but i don't use this program on my laptop ever, and i'm not really sure how it works... furthermore, i don't want to have to export from LR on my laptop, then transfer to iPhotos, before transferring to my iPad...

is my question making any sense? any suggestions for how to do this? what do you do to organize images to show others?

I’m probably horribly “low tech” but here is one solution. If you have a card reader on your laptop, put the photos you want on a sd card. There is a very inexpensive card reader you can plug into your iPad. This will import the cards photos to Photos on your iPad. From there you can organize them into “albums” and there is a slideshow option to view an album.

I second the suggestion of @amyK The iPad is wonderful for displaying albums with all kinds of extras including musical accompaniment.

Hi Northy, I did it with Lightroom. To control the amount of space (and be sure I was showing only my true portfolio images) I made a specific collection "Portfolio", added my portfolio images to that collection, and just enabled that collection for mobile sync instead of syncing the whole catalog. As for LR giving fits on the iPad, maybe delete it and reinstall? I've had to do that occasionally with LR upgrades.

@amyk @allie912 @dbj_365 tx all... i'll have a play around with LR on the weekend i think... it would definitely be nice if i didn't have to go thru yet another app :)
