Worst photo of the year

January 4th, 2018
I am proud to have taken a photo during all 365 days of 2017, and I loved the first year of my project. Thanks to everyone for being so kind and supportive! Amid all these good feelings, though, boy, did I have some clunkers! Some bad photos captured good memories, some bad photos shared some hopefully interesting slice of life, some bad photos were good ideas that were poorly executed, and some bad photos were just thoroughly bad!

I thought it might be fun to post my least favorite photo of the year, and I hope others will join in by sharing here or by tagging it worstphotooftheyear.

I think this one was mine: I hurriedly snapped a picture of the bottom of a metal tub, thinking I might have captured some interesting lighting. I didn’t look at it on my computer until the next day and, ugh!, I was stuck with posting this one, all grainy and a mess….

@marcy0414 You might consider it your worst but I really like it. Great abstract
January 4th, 2018
Oh, fun! What a great idea. I'll play. BTW, I like this pic, too!
January 4th, 2018
@sarahlth @homeschoolmom Aw, thanks. @houser934 made a kind comment on it too that I greatly appreciated.

I love that this community brings so many different points of view together in such a supportive way. If other people end up posting I am sure I will feel envious about some of the great "worst" photos that get shared. I have been amazed by the talent of so many photographers in this community and their ability to consistently post awesome photos.

Ok, here's mine. Sadly, I had a hard time picking. I posted several bad ones last year! LOL!
January 4th, 2018
@marcy0414 That would be a perfect image as a cover for a Sci-Fi novel
January 4th, 2018
@homeschoolmom Loved your funny comment, Lisa, but I like the action of your shot and the beauty of the feathers. That must have been great to see this from so close by!
January 4th, 2018
@helstor Thank you -- nice idea.
January 4th, 2018
My worst -- nothing interesting, out of focus, and basically just a bug

January 4th, 2018
@jaybutterfield Cool pic though -- I don't recognize it as a bug I've seen in my area (Connecticut), but I don't pay much attention to bugs.
January 4th, 2018
What was I thinking?? It'a out of focus, has camera shake and is pretty boring too!! It'a gong to be hard for there to be one worse than this I reckon Marcy!! (oh, well done on yor year of pics!!)

January 4th, 2018
Cell phone pic, sad I didn't have my camera it could have been a cool shot

January 4th, 2018
@30pics4jackiesdiamond I like your pov and the reflection. This is fun seeing what everyone is picking. Thanks for the kind words
January 4th, 2018
@pinknpurfect Interesting panoramic, Jennifer.
January 4th, 2018
Well, it's not really fair, because I don't post every day (any more), so I'm sure I left some horrible pictures unposted. But of what I did put up, this one ties for my least favorite. I said it was a picture of a building, but it's really just a bunch of cars...

January 4th, 2018
@houser934 Thanks for sharing, Kathryn. It's interesting to hear your different perspective with your different posting schedule.
January 4th, 2018
so awful!
January 4th, 2018

The epitome of ugliness
January 4th, 2018
that was interesting looking back over the year, i had a lot of gaps and i guess i just dont post these days if i dont like my photos! but this one is probably the one i like the least that i did post was a self portrait on film, i didnt want to waste it!
January 4th, 2018
@jackies365 Pretty muted color, and I clicked through and read about your jet lag at the time, so it works well to reflect that.
January 4th, 2018
@joemuli Perhaps an ugly insect, but a cool shot!
January 4th, 2018
@kali66 How cool that you did it on film! I have thought about trying a roll for old time's sake. I remember being so careful about not wasting any shots, and now with digital I will think nothing of shooting many shots of a subject from multiple angles. Your self-portrait meets the artist challenge so well with the tone and your pensive expression.
January 4th, 2018
number one of many, bad weather & frustration was the cause of my mood to post this one

I was thinking getting the thread together for the best pic last year, you have just reminded me to do it
January 5th, 2018
@wenbow I do like your photo for mood, Wendy. The best shot thread sounds fun!
January 5th, 2018
I have no idea why I bothered - no focus where it was supposed to be - too dark, awful colour cast and clearly I must have been desperate LOL
January 5th, 2018
@kiwinanna I liked reading your info about the cast-offs. I love hearing cicadas when there are big groups of them, but I have never found a cast-off.
January 5th, 2018
I love this! Keeping us all humble and laughing at ourselves. Here's mine. I was challenged to do a light trails shot and had set up in the median of the road. What I didn't realize was that each car passing by was creating a buffeting wind that was shaking the camera. Even without the shaking, it would still be a terrible shot.
January 5th, 2018
@30pics4jackiesdiamond I like your pic!
January 5th, 2018
@marcy0414 but looking back it has made you smile.
January 5th, 2018
an interesting idea. I join ....I unfortunately could not correctly find the settings.....

January 5th, 2018
I was totally unhappy with this one. Normally I do not struggle so much in low key.
January 5th, 2018
A
Going back through my project, there actually weren't that many that I'm not happy with - I thought there would be a lot more!

But this one is just... meh. It didn't work out how I wanted, it's not abstract enough to be a good abstract, but also doesn't have enough of a subject to be anything else, it's not in focus, it's not very sharp...

January 5th, 2018
What fun to see everyone's choice! There are so many things to like about these photos. I guess even when a photo comes out disappointing to the photographer, it can still offer something interesting to the viewer.
January 5th, 2018
It does make us go back and analyze what we've posted for the year -- and that's always good to be analytical, right? I find that my love of the nighttime for photography means my shots tend to be dark, and sometimes so dark you can't see what the image is about. In this case, I should have had a tripod, and I should have lifted shadows a bit so it wasn't only about the lights, but also about the city.

January 5th, 2018
@marcy0414 Ha ha good idea. I'll have to look through mine. I know there are a bunch that would easily qualify. Sorry, I have to agree with @sarahlth I like your "worst" -- neat abstract. And just to spite you, I'm gonna put it in my favorites!
January 5th, 2018
Santa was too fast for my damn cell phone. He was so cool to see on Christmas eve on a Harley!
January 5th, 2018
This may be one of my worse pictures. This is definitely "I need a picture for today" moment. It seems that most of "your" worst photos are very good.

January 5th, 2018
That was depressing: Looking over my 2017, searching for worst / least favorite image. There's way too many that qualify. After some internal debate, I chose this one:

Ill conceived, poorly executed. And worst of all BORING...
January 5th, 2018
haha, such a fun idea! My super lame shot of the year award goes to this martini glass:

Guess I was drunk when I took it?
January 5th, 2018
@lsquared well think that does beat my spoon!!!
! @kirkjoshua really?? Thank you!
January 5th, 2018
Had a few to choose from but I chose this one for my worst. Didn't like it at the time and still don't like it.

January 5th, 2018
what was I thinking...my only excuse is that it was for the half and half challenge, but really?!

January 5th, 2018
I love this thread and in spite of the fact that I am way behind in posting and commenting, I am going to search for my worst!
January 6th, 2018
@inthecloud5 but I like it!
January 6th, 2018

No amount of post-processing rescued this blurry and hastily taken photo. There were a couple others that came close but this was definitely my worst photo of the year. Great thread Marcy!!
January 6th, 2018
The colors are great, the focus is not. Shot from the car and happened to be the best capture for that day. So goes the 365 project. :)
January 6th, 2018
This shot from early August was my first attempt at my get pushed challenge -- minimalism. But the minimal aspect is all it has going for it. Super boring.
January 6th, 2018
Im sure I’ve done worse - but this was a big yawn! When you are desperate just to post an image ... and your breakfast is staring at you ...
January 6th, 2018

I really can't see why I took this one - except it was clutching at straws on a day with no inspiration.
January 6th, 2018

It was either this or point the camera in a random direction and press the shutter.
