nudes on 365

January 26th, 2011
I have a nude photo that I might upload on 365. I'm not sure if this is a violation of the terms of agreement. I did a search for other nudes and didn't see any. Is it cool or not?
January 26th, 2011
nude is tasteful not pornographic
January 26th, 2011
There has been quite a bit of discussion about this. The general consensus seems to be: no problem. Children do use the site since there is no age restriction, but that is nothing we can really help. I'd say go ahead and upload it.
January 26th, 2011
yeah i just read the terms of service. no mention at all.
January 26th, 2011
I see no problem with it as long as it's tasteful and not pornographic I myself shoot alot of fine art nudity. It's a beautiful art..
January 26th, 2011
I agree with the above posts, we do have the problem that there are children using this site however. I think you would be asked to move it quickly enough if anyone found it inappropriate? Why don't you drop Ross a line for input, he might have some legal issues as the site owner, he would be the one sued if a parent considered it offensive and their child was seen to be "upset" in some way??
January 26th, 2011
I would err on the side of caution and go with tasteful and all models being above the age of consent in most countries. Not sure where this site is technically based from or where you are from, but I know in the U.S. they are pretty protective of minors who are under 18.

I did come across a tasteful nude photo today where no face or "parts" were shown, so I agree with Michelle and ask Ross if there are guidelines.
January 26th, 2011
UPLOAD IT!!!! there's a big difference between a girl sticking her tongue out with a lusty, flirty look and a shadow play black and white errrr colored nude art! =)

I SAY! GO FOR IT!
January 26th, 2011
Do it!
January 26th, 2011
Sure let kids watch all the violence, people getting killed, and mutilated they want on TV, youtube, internet, etc. but a naked woman or man? OMG THEIR BRAINS ARE GOING TO ROT.

haha

January 26th, 2011
I would prefer this site, used by my children and a great many school children world wide remain "safe for work" and exclude nudes. There are certainly plenty of sites to post those, Photo.net is great for photographic works of all kinds for example. But very few sites have been relatively safe for minors, encouraged for use in classrooms, and so supportive of their work and sensitive to all like this one.
January 26th, 2011
I've seen plenty of NSFW pics on here that AREN'T nudes, tasteful or otherwise. There's plenty of subject matter here and many places that I won't let my kids view, including "artsy nudes"..they're just not mature enough. But that's why I patrol their internet use. I don't agree with kids having free access to images that are beyond their maturity, but considering what's already uploaded here..drugs, violence, death, creepy stuff...why NOT allow nudes? My two cents. :)
January 26th, 2011
I would like to think that we can all differentiate between a tasteful nude and a tasteless shocker, like the hairy shower thing the other week. I don't see why someone couldn't upload an artsy nude, after all, I've seen shots on here that show simulated drug use and simulated violence, which to me would be far worse for a child to see than a nude.
January 26th, 2011
ok.... well... i'm uploading them now. 365 and raw photos = days till completed upload. Tell me what you think.
January 26th, 2011
From what I saw on your albums, there should be no issue at all. What I saw was more about lighting and texture than anything else. I've seen more skin on the beach, or in the local shopping mall!
January 26th, 2011
ah... there is an ass that's being uploaded right now! that's the picture that I had questions about.
January 26th, 2011
@kiwi I accidentally - after getting a better look on my computer at the actual photo - caught a tiny ice bubble in one of my ice cubes that oddly resembled the male organ. It was total chance and too good a "chance" happen to pass up so I say go for it. (and like everyone else, as long as it's tasteful!) I'm still alive, but I don't have a lot of followers to report me if it is offensive.
http://365project.org/Sheral/365/2011-01-11 in case you were curious of the one I was in reference to.
January 26th, 2011
I don't think butts are all that offensive (to those who are in fact offended by nudity), tbh. Unless they're hairy, evidently :)

Also, @Sheral I loled.
January 26th, 2011
That butt photo? I`ve seen more nudey photos from someone here, and nobody had issues with that person`s photos. You shouldn`t worry about it.And yours is clearly artistic. Not obscene at all.
I think all nudity should be okay, except full frontal nudity.
January 26th, 2011
I out one up way back in Nov to test the waters ... then put a series of four up more recently and held my breath. It was meant as art and NO negative replies so pick it carefully and work on the landscape as being the subject or shadow play rather than "here is a nude person come and perv"!
January 26th, 2011
People people people!
I think the bigger issue at hand/The more critical question is
.
.
.
.
.
.
Is it yours Kiwi? ( @kiwi )

XD
January 26th, 2011
I've seen some blogs which allow members to upload nude photos. Photography is Art and Photos are Art. I don't see any problem on that. I'm sure a decent person who is into photography knows his limitations as well and knows his craft very well. we are all creative in so many ways. Photography is also an Expression. So go on and if you get negative comments more than positive, i guess you know what is to be done. I'm looking forward to it.
January 26th, 2011
@sempynz Hahaha
January 26th, 2011
You're never going to please everybody. Do it.
January 26th, 2011
I'm sure there will be people who will be offended by the fact that your picture is of the nude variety. However, there are pictures that aren't nude that I don't find tasteful. As for the age restrictions (or lack thereof) - If a child is using this site, i can only assume that their parents are monitoring their usage and determining what is suitable for them to view, reviewing the comments they write and advising on the competitions they enter.

I suppose the point I am trying to make is, if you have a picture regardless of the amount of clothing the subject is wearing and you believe it to be tasteful, in context of your project and you're willing to be responsible for what you post, then go for it. If your intention is to shock and disturb, then there are other websites and other photo services that you can use. The fact you've gone to the effort to post this discussions tells me what ever you decide, it will be a considered decision.

I hope you find this useful.
January 26th, 2011
I have kids that might look over my shoulder whilst I'm on here and I really do not mind them seeing a nude pic. As long as its not erotic, the nude form should be celebrated, especially those of 'normal bodies' to desaturate the ridiculous airbrushed images they are exposed to on a daily basis..... Just my two penneth like ; P Plus I like pictures of me breastfeeding my little one every now and again which might include a bit of nipple on occasion and I would be furious if that was censored ; )
January 26th, 2011
@singer I can see the need for a way of selecting not to see nude shots and people tagging them so that your option will be respected.

look forward to seeing anything done tastefully - the human form is very beautiful and openly available to see in many galleries the world over.
January 26th, 2011
@kiwi @singer I have looked at the shoot and its cool, if we start getting too weird about censoring art then we run the risk of killing the avant guard nature of the art out of fear of what people will think. I mean Michelangelo's David is nudie and BIG, and I teach that at school, so the question is; are old nudes are art but contemporary nudes are just rated NSFW or porn?? Or maybe the offense has more to do with the interperatation of the viewer than the intention of the artist........me thinks Bill Henson would have something to say about it.
January 26th, 2011
@gerrybehr I agree with you. allow it or allow nothing, because I have seen a lot of naked baby shots on this site that are not to my taste, but I can appreciate them for what they are. And if a kid is freaking out by checking out the naked buttom photo then I guess that child is showering with his eyes closed
January 26th, 2011
You know, at the end of the day (and feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) - this site isn't actually for kids. Sure, it's swell if they have an interest in this and can take up the challenge, but as with any art medium, there are going to be things that may offend, frighten or disgust people; that's just how the cookie crumbles.

However, butts aren't even censored on TV, so I don't see why they would bother anyone on here. If a person (children aside) is in fact uncomfortable with seeing a bare bottom, then that's okay, they have the option to look away. :)
January 26th, 2011
Nod
Artistic nude...yes :)
Bur how do you judge which is really artistic?.. Just a thought
January 26th, 2011
@indiannie_jones - well said Annie.
January 26th, 2011
@infonographist I agree with you there. I have a 4 yr old son. My home has many nude paintings and fine photography on the walls. Only in the USA is nudity a bad thing. As long as it's done tastefully with class, there is nothing wrong with it.
January 26th, 2011
I'll be reallyhonest then Kiwi. I don't particularly like the photo. It doesn't (blimey, how to say this without it coming out wrong?!) do anything for me. BUT, I don't find it offensive and I can't see why it would be to anyone.
January 26th, 2011
I'm *so* for nude pictures. If they're tastefully done and artistic, I say go for it!!!
January 26th, 2011
I totally agree with Annie (@indiannie_jones). This is an artistic community so as long as it is done tastefully, why not? I would be far more uncomfortable about the thought of this site being censored.
January 26th, 2011
@itszaiii

I am with you on that one.
January 26th, 2011
@sempynz haha... i was thinking of doing a self butt portrait but luckily for the people on 365, this is my friend Leeza!
January 26th, 2011
@kiwi - Wanted to say that it was nicely done. I like your album and you have a new follower. But what would be amazing is if this photo made the popular page.

@indiannie_jones - Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we had threads before about kids and protecting them from stuff like this? And the term artistic is fairly broad, which it should be.

(for the record this article is safe for work/viewing)
January 26th, 2011
I follow someone on here who has posted quite a few nudes, mainly topless women . But again, they´re quite tasteful.
January 26th, 2011
@crappysailor Probably, but it's just a butt :)
January 26th, 2011
Admit it! You all just want to see Kiwi naked ;)
January 26th, 2011
@michelletyre That is what I was hoping for! Hahaa
January 26th, 2011
January 26th, 2011
Just a matter of taste really.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that we are having this discussion in 2011.

Those who often oppose nudity in photos I guess must have a low self esteem.

Of course the issue of nude children is more sensitive.

Interesting article here from the a decent paper

January 26th, 2011
Your project = your choice.

It's not your responsibility to "keep 365 safe for children" - that's the parents responsibility.
January 26th, 2011
@rossco088 - Completely agreed.

Although having said 'your choice' .. really offensive material should be kept off here; that isn't what this site is for. But by that I mean really really disgusting and tasteless. Anything else.. well it isn't a children's site really.
January 27th, 2011
The last thing I want to see is 365Project censored in anyway, shape or form. That being said, if you have a child or children at home - now may be a good time to discuss this with them or if you're really offended, block 365Project in your web browser. Or perhaps view 365Project with your child together.

In the end, this is a photography forum... not Disney on Ice. There are plenty of places for children to 'hang out' online and if there's something you see "questionable" on 365Project... then perhaps, this isn't the place for your child.

In any case, it isn't the responsibility of 365Project to babysit. God knows there are far more horrible things on the Internet your child could be viewing.

Just my two pennies. =)
January 27th, 2011
@rossco088 @scottwong I couldn't say it better!
January 27th, 2011
@motorsport I remember this all happening, it was just after the big Bill Henson blow up. When I see this and hear how 'disgusting' it is and how it needs to be censored it makes me wonder if that means they will also censor all those naked babies in the bath photos. What kind of world would it be if you could no longer embarress your adult children at their 21st birthday by showing photos of them as babies bathing with their siblings?? (though in hindsight, I come from a large family and have a twin brother and my 21st would probably have been a lot less cringe worthy for me).
January 27th, 2011
@rossco088 well said, excellent points indeed.
January 27th, 2011
I know that Flickr take quite a strict view of nudity that is tagged as 'safe' but art is art. I'm just more concerned about my curiosity with @Sheral 's icy penis :-)
January 27th, 2011
@spionkopred I haven't read most of the previous posts, but I just saw the quote "icy penis"?!
January 28th, 2011
@wormentude agree with u, not my cup of tea.. totally not affence
