Camera Phone

February 1st, 2011
Does anyone else use their camera phone to take pics? I just find it easier because can e-mail the pics on the fly from my phone to the website...

I feel like maybe I should be using a real camera though because everyone else's pictures look so fine and dandy and professional :)

i do for most of my shots too! i have a samsung rant that takes great shots! i get frustrated with my digital because it always wants to auto-focus or add a flash that drowns out my subject. plus i've always got my phone on me!

I have for a few shots. It's always with me, and so much easier than always carrying my camera.

I use both. I was thinking about doing my other album shots just from my iPhone. Not sure yet.

I only use my sony ercisson phone set on VGA so I can email it quickly. I find it more of a challenge to try to capture a good photo. Plus I always have my phone on me so I never miss a photo.

For a very long time I felt my photos were terrible compared to all the ones on this site. I debated getting a "real" camera or quitting and then I remembered why I was doing this project. It was to photo journal what was important in my day to day life and not to have 100s of people drooling or praise my photos.

I'm no longer depressed and frustrated over my photos. I love my project and i am proud to be using my phone to do it.

@sissybufu You make such a great point, I was feeling the same way about my pictures and you totally put the purpose of this project into perspective...THANKS!

Nod
I used to take a lot of iphone4 photos before I started the 365project. Lost it at the end of last year tho otherwise it will be the best camera --the one I always have with me :-)

I have a Droid incredible...LOVE the camera and video aspect of it...and my hubby is upset that I just spent $$ on a Canon and dont use it much because my phone is easier...and faster...and fits in my pocket...and its on me at all times!! lol

@hockechic I have a Droid X and feel the same way about mine :)

I use my iPhone 4 constantly! Having completed my first year as a mix of my Nikon P90 and iPhone, I am dedicating my 365 album for my second year to shots that I have either taken or edited with my iPhone. =)

I agree with Sissybufu. I was feeling sad about my pictures looking lame and unprofessional and then remembered that it's MY project and it's meant for ME to remember the little everyday things. I use the camera on my Pixi almost exclusively. :)

@drmarctagon so far I'd say 99% of my photos thus far were taken with my samsung epic. it's just easier for me to keep up with the project since my phone is always on me. i have found lots of 365ers are using a camera phone.

Every one of my pictures is from my camera phone. I've decided to approach this picture as a "one thing I see each day". It makes it easy to just email them and add to my project.
February 1st, 2011
I use my phone and my camera.
February 1st, 2011
@banter That's exactly the approach I take...
February 1st, 2011
@kish I'm noticing the same since I posted this, thanks for replying :)

My first year was iPhone 3G & iPhone 4 only. I just started a new year and haven't chosen to branch out and use another camera, but I'm open to it.
February 1st, 2011
All my pics are taken on my iPhone 3GS. I'm looking forward to seeing what shots I can get on my phone. Besides its always on me, I don't care too much about how fancy and clear it looks... (the lack of a flash can suck at times)

I agree 100% with @sissybufu . For me its about the challenge not the quality of picture my phone produces.

I prefer my point and shoot to my camera phone, actually. It's also very small but has way more options.

I make two 365 projects. One completely on iPhone 3GS with free app there that makes great editing. For another 365 project I use my Olympus DSLR. I can say that these projects are completely different but I love them both. But sometimes it seems to me that I like my iPhone project even more as every shot with iPhone really surprises me. I do not have so much control over image as on DSLR camera but this challenge brings more creativity to idea and composition.

I've only just started, but all my photos have been taken on my iPhone so far!!

@sissybufu I think it's a really good point that you make - different people have different reasons for participating. Some are professional photographers, others are learning to use their cameras, some want a record of their day to day life over a year and others love to share their images with friends. There seems to be a certain amount of respect for these different reasons within the community.

I use my phone exclusively and I'm glad I'm not alone. The only thing I regret about not using a camera is not having a zoom function but I'll get by.

My iphone works well for me ;-) and its always with me for that unexpected shot

I'm glad to read these comments as I only have the camera that comes with the iphone, so that's what I'm using for this project. The photos that I've seen so far are beautifully done, so I can see it would be easy to feel inadequate, but thanks to the comments here, 'this is about our journal', I'll let that little bit of judgment go!

I love taking pictures on my iphone, I use a free editing app, that's about it. I'm more about the feel rather than the execution.

So far, all my shots are from my HTC Incredible. It has an 8 mp camera. It's so much easier to get a picture everyday with the phone because I always have it. I am only 31 days into this project and I'm still getting used to the picture a day concept....maybe later I'll also use shots from my camera...maybe.

Both me and my daughter are doing the project using our phones. She has an iPhone 4 and uses her iPad for editing. I have a Samsung Galaxy S and only use the 3 free apps from the Android market. The phone is always with me and so hopefully I should never forget to take the photo!

I've seen lots of wonderful photos uploaded from phone cams. I just bought a new Droid2 Global and the photos I've taken with it so far stink. Friends have the DroidX and take wonderful shots. I'm not sure if the problem is my or my phone.
February 1st, 2011
I use both. I'm impressed with my little iPhone4 camera, I've wanted one for so long, just to have an easy camera to carry with me when taking the slr is not convenient. I also like the Hipstamatic app.
February 1st, 2011
@ldpaul I'm using the Droid X as well..
February 1st, 2011
I use a mixture of my DSLR, compact camera and mobile phone. The phone only has a 2mp camera and is all but useless indoors or anywhere dark. The upside is that I always have it handy, so it gets me the grab shots.
February 1st, 2011
I haven't used my phone for a shot in yonks, but I have used it during my project.
February 1st, 2011
@indiannie_jones yonks is just the best word.
February 1st, 2011
@stepheesue That it is :)
February 1st, 2011
I use my phone but I draw inspiration from what others are taking so when I'm walking around...I'll try to make it as artful or inspirational (even if to me) as possible so that when I look back at the project I can see how I saw something differently in the 365 days.

February 1st, 2011
I find myself using my iphone a lot more for shots.
But I still love my camera!
February 1st, 2011
I use my iphone quite a bit for photos - its easy sometimes cos its at hand - for example yesterday there was a gorgeous frost pattern on my car so i just grabbed and snapped!
February 1st, 2011
I've taken a fair number of photos with my blackberry - most are seriously out of focus, but every once in a while I hit with a winner... like this one:

I've taken a few when I've been out and saw something interesting. My Samsung Wave does a pretty good job for a phone, although it doesn't seem to have as many interesting options as an iPhone.
January 21st, 2012
@drmarctagon I'm taking shots using only my cameraphone for my 365 project this year. I have an SLR Pentax K-7 but want to see if using my phone changes the shots I take.

All iPhone, all the time.
