Great question! I've been wondering, I noticed it sells for about $80 on Amazon. What's $80 special about it??

$80 !? :(

I don't think I can afford a Danbo.

it's a little action figure from a manga comic...it's tiny and cute and has joints that let you pose it.... @selardore
February 2nd, 2011
@selardore that's what I thought too!
February 2nd, 2011
Yep it's a manga action figure that Amazon made. They stopped producing them so that's why the price is really high now, because they are in limited supply. They seem to be a really popular item right now (especially for manga collectors and some photographers), and the fact that they are limited makes the price go even higher.

I actually ordered one and got it in the mail yesterday. He was in my picture today. At any rate, I paid a little over $40 for him but I got it on eBay and I know that it was listed at the wrong price. They had listed 3 and I got the last one within an hour of it being posted. The seller now has it listed for significantly more so I got lucky. I got him because I love toys in general but I find it inspires me creatively. The fact that it can be posed a number of ways adds a lot of character and makes it expressive. =)

I got mine on eBay also. They swam over from Japan and didn't cost $80 for sure! I think $45. It was a good thing for me because I was in a slump and Danbo gave me a burst of creativity!! You never know. . . :))

Ugh I had 2 of them, that my puppy destroyed. Oh how I miss them. but no way I'm paying that much for them now.

My website explaining where Danbo's from. Also, Amazon didn't make them, some were just branded up with Amazon.
February 2nd, 2011
@eyebrows hahaha thanks for that :)
February 2nd, 2011
Danbo is so cute!! I love him/her :)
February 2nd, 2011
That's nuts, Dando is cute but ultimately that's too much money for a bit of almost worthless card stock, I'm sorry but the words money & sense spring to mind.

HELP how does he go together??

You gotta be a *censored offensive word* to buy a cardboard box for 80 bucks!

the new beanie babies

it's from a manga called 'Yotsuba!', where in a scene a character dresses in cardboard boxes (danboard). the figures have been going up & up in price, once upon a time you could find the posable lil character for $20, which is reasonable in collectable action figure land (collectable, hence the absurd price). then again @ $10 a book and 9 book so far, the series isn't cheap either (but manga never is) but it is an adorable story!

@eyebrows @myla thank you for setting it straight ... research is getting the facts correct not assuming a mega company thought of it!

Danboard is a cult figure so expect to pay cult prices ... I would if I was more into him ...

@autumnseden well done! original or with Amazon all over it?

@stepheesue will have to check it out - your danbo pix ...
February 3rd, 2011
@misschuff I got the Amazon variety but I like that he is smiling depending on the angle I use to shot him. ;)
