Then attend this event! (You don't even need to leave your house to do it). Thought I'd post this on here since I know most of you have facebook accounts and would probably have a lot of fun getting creative with your profile pics!
Thanks:) http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=197002216986250
@indiannie_jones@tori3012 Thanks:) @naomi Sorry - didn't mean to exclude non-facebookers! It's an event for "Make-up Free Day" - just to draw attention to the unrealistic perceptions of beauty that the media are putting out there for young women to live up to as ideals; leading to all sorts of eating disorders and self-esteem issues in young women today. It's not something I want my daughter to have to experience, so it's an event to change your facebook profile pic on April 2nd to a make-up free one to demonstrate that beauty comes in all forms. Hope that explains:)
I joined! I also sent out invites to some friends! Hope that's ok. I love the idea... although I have to be honest, I also attend pretty much every day! :-)
I flat refuse to wear makeup unless there's a very very good reason....like my wedding or being in a friends, and then it's only on as long as the cameras are out.
I'm attending to try to spread the message, even though I don't wear make up. My entire beauty routine is to wash and blow-dry my hair daily and moisturiser else I get really dry skin on my face.
A friend once complemented me on the fact I always have really clear skin. I wanted (but didn't) to tell her that it's because I don't plaster myself in foundation and concealer every day. The most I ever wear is a tiny bit of eyeshadow, but rarely.
Thanks for organising this, I think it's really important.
@jeannine1125 Thanks Jeannine, it's something I feel pretty passionate about, now that I have a daughter. I don't want her to ever feel inferior because of ridiculous media stereotypes. Not for a minute.
I'm attending! Don't wear make-up .. no hair color either. And I'm happy for your daughter that she has a mom like you! Even though I'm not a mom I always find it disconcerting when mothers encourage little girls towards media defined ideals of beauty
@pwallis it's so silly isn't it!! Who says it makes us beautiful?? It's so funny, my husband says I'm prettier with no makeup at all. You would think that would be the kicker for me, that i'd never wear it at all. But it's so ingrained that I can't go out of the house without it....
I really do think this is a wonderful thread.
