There is only one page in the "latest" section so they can disappear from there very quickly. But you should be able to find yours in the "day" section. The latest ones are on the first page and the earliest ones posted that day are on the later pages. I just checked today's and there are 1500+ photos so you have to do some serious searching :)
Oh, and if you click on the arrow to the sides of the page you will go to the next days photos. You have to click on the page numbers at the bottom of the page to see more for that day.
Also, if you are wanting for them to be browsed based on the subject in the photo, you should tag them so that people can search "bird" if they want and your picture tagged with the word "bird" will be included in that list of pictures. Just tag whatever is in it!
