Hey everyone!
Hope you're all doing alright despite the manky weather!
I work on a monthly magazine and one of my friends does the graphics for it.
We're currently working on a new template layout and as part of it we'd love to have some coloursplash photos ( http://photobucket.com/images/color%20splash/) in the titles.
The only problem is, the only way I know how to edit photos like this is manually using the online photobucket editor.
I was just wondering if anyone knew how to do it on photoshop?
That would be really helpful!
Thank you :]
Naomi.
Make a new (copy) layer, turn down the saturation to zero (better to convert to black and white with filtering and color correction but usually turning down saturation is enough) and start erasing what you want colored.
Another way to do it:
1) Select what you want to remain colored with the magic wand tool or the magnetic lasso tool
2) Go to select-->inverse
3) Hit CTRL+U and pull the saturation bar all the way to the 0 or the left.
Also you could use Layer Masks, and do it exactly like Stephanie said except instead of erasing you're painting the colour in with the black brush. Then if you make a mistake you can paint the colour out with the white brush. (It makes more sense if you try it).

And voila, its done as soon as you take the picture.
