Help! Photo Competition Ideas Needed!

June 1st, 2011
Okay guys, again I turn to the wonderful 365 community for help! :)

I entered a photograph into a competition here in Grand Rapids, called ArtPrize. Some of you might remember it from before, I asked you guys what I should title the piece. (I settled on "The Descent," if any of you were wondering!)

The way the competition works is that artists create a profile, and connect with venues to display their art. I currently have an interested venue, but they want my work to be displayed outside.

Any creative ways that I could display a photograph outside?

This photo, btw:

Fantastic!
Have you considered putting it on a canvas? Maybe then you could put it onto an artist's easel? Acrylic would fare well against the weather.
This is tricky! Wishing you loads of luck with the competition!

@kezzam That was one of the options I had in mind, yes. Not entirely sure what the venue has in mind, however. I'm nervous, I've never done anything like this before!

Whats your budget.
Print it out onto a4 sheets of paper, which would involve blowing it up huge, then use billboard paste to collage all the A4 sheets together. Maybe in the states you don't use the term A4 but I'm talking about normal letter sized paper. You could even overlap the sheets and rip some of them, so you montage the picture back together again, but huge. Or print it off ordinary sized and laminate it, or print loads off and laminate them all then put a washing line/clothes line up between two points and use clothes pegs to peg the laminates to the line.
Or being that it's black and white you could colour in some of the black areas with water based paint then drip water on it as though it's rained and let the black run as though bad weather has ruined your photo, would be a cool effect. Okay I had about a hundred other ideas but that was because I did art at university!!! Good luck.

Allyssa, I live in Grand Rapids and so am familiar with ArtPrize. My husband and I have an aerial photography business and offer as one of our mounting services to clients The Wooden Gallery Process. A guy up in Traverse City does the process - basically photo is mounted to a board and coated with an emulsion which is uv protected and withstands exposure to the elements. It does give texture to the photo so that may not be something you want. His website is www.thewoodengallery.com. What venues are you looking at?
