Here's my latest one. I was getting too close to the babies for this little bird's comfort, and you can see the motion of the feet and wings as I was getting chewed out.
That's funny you should start this discussion because today I took a break from my normal flower shots and took a photo of some birds in my garden. And here it is...
My husband and I drove up the California coast and into wine county for our anniversary last month, and these are all of the wonderful things we encountered along the way!
@zamer1969 Spectacular! We sometimes have raccoons around but they seemed too bold and they made me nervous when it looked like they felt I should invite them into my house! :-)
There isn't really anything interesting around my house so I go to the zoo sometimes and see what I can get there. It isn't the greatest but I thought that it turned out okay.
@kynosmom A ground hog! We used to see those in our yard. They're cool...they come out, munch some wild flowers, then go home. That squirrel was looking right at you, Was he yelling at you? We have one that yells at us.
@5unflow3r Its a chipmunk and I foiled his raiding my bird feeder. He lives in a tree in the corner of our yard. There used to be red squirrels that lived there before and they did yell at me, so funny.
@kynosmom Ah, at first I did think chipmunk, but the more I looked the more I wasn't sure, I think I'm not used to seeing them in trees. Yeah, the being yelled at by squirrels is pretty strange and funny...I mean really. :-)
As I scrolled down the page I was just going wow, wow, wow. So many talented people and glorious captures. I have too many wildlife pics as that's my preferred subject, so I guess if I had to choose one, this would be it:
@brandywalker365 Those are awesome! I was thinking of trying to get out to a zoo this summer for a shoot...um I mean to spend quality time with my 9-yr-old. :-) Love the tiger sticking his tongue out.
I have a few wildlife shots here, but as I don't have a paid account on 365project.org I can only post one shot a day :( from which I'd probably pick this one...
@5unflow3r Oh yes. Especially when they didn't take off, they just sat there looking at me. I worried about them all night--wished I would have sent them along with a little bunny coat and a lunch box, you know how it is. (:
@clarissajohal We found baby snapping turtles one year, in the road, so we figured we'd keeo them until they got bigger (and dangerous-LOL). We'd made sure that they could catch fish and bugs, so they were all set. When we let them go, after a year, on a day we fondly called "Turtle Liberation Day", they sat in the water and looked at us. Then we walked away, along the water, and they followed us. We felt badly but we knew they would be happier out in the wild. And we woukld get to keep all of our fingers.
So I know how you feel, but I'm sure it's even more difficult with an animal that we feel more connected to, like a fellow mammal. it's good work that you do, though. :-)
@glb484 Wow, how close were you able to get? For the foxes, I use an 18x zoom, so you can imagine that I am not close at all. I crop to the "good stuff" and hope it's useable...I've gotten a steadier hand with pracrice, and also make better settings decisions. This is fabulous! I can practically count her eye lashes. beautiful shot!
@kmrtn6 I went to your page to read the description. Clear the runway...oh forget it. LOL It may very well be wing drying, with how they are left spread out slightly. Great capture! :-)
@5unflow3ThanksTrina, I was using a 300mm , but she was actually only about 30 feet from me, she was right along the driveway in the hay field, and she actually just looked at me while I got my camera up and focused, it was a great shot, doesn't happen very often, usually all you get is tails!!! I did post a new one Saturday of a doe and baby fawn, I had to stop on the road backup and get my camera ready and they were already on the move. check it out!!! thanks
Today's shot. The thief was trying to steal the bird seed from the bird feeder and the dog took exception to it. They were 10 feet apart (vertically) either chirping or barking at each other. Eventually they got tired of that and went their separate ways.
@5unflow3r Cute photo, but when I first read that you "Shot them" I thought you killed them! ha ha Photography lingo is dangerous. Great photo and great idea for a thread.
And I ran across a large group of bighorn sheep on a roadtrip last week. I actually got a handful of cool pics but my husband liked this one best so I put it up.
@interludephotos These are great! Love the parrot...looks like he posed for a new "head shot" :-) The other bird pic is so funny....he's standing so tall and straight like a human.
@rddaisy That's a great close-up! I've been trying to get a frog photo...I know of this great pond where I should eventually be able to capture one. Usually I hear them croak, and also jumping into the water, but I never see them!
@5unflow3r Thanks Trina! Yeah, I love the photo of the bird standing up straight. He was basking in the sunshine I guess. If you look at my posting of that particular photo you'll laugh at what I gave for it's title I'm sure. =)
@tori3012 Great snail...love the speckles on it, and the four parts sticking out of his head,,,i guess two are antennae and 2 are eyes, Nice composition too
@5unflow3r The fox were living under my neighbor's shed....I "ate"breakfast with them every morning for about 3 weeks....They are gone now...I hope they come back to visit!
Wile E. Coyote
Seen at my school.
My wild bird :)
May 31st
Great toad shot too.
this is actually my only picture of any animal. lets hope I have more soon ha.
This is my favourite from recently though...
It's so he can look you straight in the eye before he kills you. =P
and from a few days ago...
Here is one I took today!
I'll add mine too but it's nowhere as good as the above,so forgive me for that.
Pretty sure they were checking out all the construction work that was going on in the exhibit next to them!
Went to the local park yesterday to take photos of trees but couldn't resist the birds.
Spring 2011 (2 of 2)
Okay, it isn't real or alive, but it sure caught my eye while driving past.
So I know how you feel, but I'm sure it's even more difficult with an animal that we feel more connected to, like a fellow mammal. it's good work that you do, though. :-)
I wish she was closer, but I was lucky to get this on my hike before she took off.
Not as good as some of the others I have seen here, wow amazing shots
And I ran across a large group of bighorn sheep on a roadtrip last week. I actually got a handful of cool pics but my husband liked this one best so I put it up.
Sorta wild... :)
The next one was taken from my kitchen window a few weeks ago
I didn't even see the squirrel until I downloaded the photos, and he was in 5 out of 6. He chose his camouflage well.
This fawn walked across the backyard of my friend's family cottage and settled down next to their neighbor's cottage:
And finally a couple tigers at the Detroit Zoo:
taken today in the park
and this is a close-up of the red panda.
