New-to-me 35mm compact help...

June 17th, 2011
So I am going on a trip... I don't want to haul the DSLR, Digital P&S bugs me... I have a box ful of 35mm that is dieing to be used....

I want something...

fixed focal... great lens (28-35mm f/2-2.8ish)
spot meter
flash
splash resistant?!?
compact (shirt pocket test)
manual controls a bonus (of flash a must)

I have tried google but they have not been popular in 5 or more years so I come up empty...plethora is a plethera of crap 35mm P&S out there for sale... I am not afraid to spend some money if I need to... hoping to shoot 50 slide, 200 B&W and 200 reg(maybe)

doing the whole wedding, back to my home town, with relatives... don't need my 120 blads as they know I am not the cool :)

options? ps yes I would be willing to buy your camera off you if you have not used it in years... just need to know it works...

I did some searching, and I don't think one exists. You can go with a rangefinder and be a bit more compact, but it won't fit in a shirt pocket. Maybe a Contax T2 / T3 or a Leica Minilux, but they're pricey, you don't get spot meter, and they may or may not be splash resistant. But you'll figure that out after the first time it gets wet.

@sudweeks I have one of those on my list... a Yak ME35 Range finder and I am trying to read more about the Ricoh GR-1.... just not a lot of info...

Are you talking about film camera? How about the Nikon 35Ti. I used it a while (like 10 years ago) and it is great. There are still around as 2nd hand I think. Saw a couple at a camera shop in Bangkok where I live.

For digital counterpart, the equivalent would probably be the Fuji X100. I use it and it's just excellent. Fixed 35 (equivalent) and f/2.
