Rules on Content

Hi folks!

Please forgive me if this has already been covered, but I couldn't for the life of me find a thread about it.

I was just wondering if there are any subjects that should *not* be uploaded to 365. Barring obvious, illegal images...is there any content that's a strict no-no here?

Don't worry; I'm not thinking of uploading anything dreadful/scary/revolting/offensive - I'm just curious!

Many thanks in advance for any feedback.

Art is most definitely subjective. This is your project, and I believe that as long as it is tastefully done, there are no taboo subjects.

@goleudy - like @aj1268 says, there seems to be no taboo subjects. There are not many controversial shots on this site, some very interesting ones where people hint at uncomfortable issues, but all in all, everything gets a shot. There's been nudity and blood and shots about suicide and gun and drug culture, there's been shots about eating disorders and mental health issues and peer pressure.

But mainly this site is full of flowers bugs and happy snaps of children.

And it is sometimes the images of children on this site that causes some to make a comment or two. Which is understandable in today's society and the availability of the internet. I can't say anything has shocked me so far in 2011, except maybe the fact that my last two self portraits have made the PP - what are those Magic Monkeys thinking???

@aj1268 Thank you so much, Paula. Very much appreciated. @bobfoto Thank you, sir! I've done my fair share of flowers and bugs - but my Labrador fills in for the sprogs. I have something lined up for next week that I know might irk a few people, but it got me wondering if there were any properly taboo subjects.

Regarding your self portraits being in the PP - congratulations! I think the Magic Monkeys must know talent - and a good face - when they see them ;)

@goleudy - Thanks Kez, by the way, I have started following you not just in anticipation of what may come but what you have achieved so far.

I think Religion has been done too... but not so shocking as of yet.

While I tend to tow the line of non controversial in my photos, remember it is your project and the majority of people will either not notice or comment. You may upset a few people, but do not worry, some better topic will come up like a stolen photo, new challenge or a whole new crop of kids, pets, flowers, bugs or clouds like @bobfoto mentions. One person recently did a photo of a tank and helicopter on top of buildings and 50% thought it was a great idea and 50% thought it was too close to 9/11 and were upset. You win some and you lose some, but you do what you feel is right for you.

Oh yeah, there have also been the odd surgical procedure including two placentas that I have noticed... so that kinda blood and guts and shock has been done.

I suggest that a good rule of thumb is to look at the ages of some of the youngest users of this site and stick within whatever you see as reasonable boundary for them.

@bobfoto @brumbe @swilde Thank you all so much for your feedback, follows and views; it's wonderful that you've taken the time to clear this up for me. Hob Nobs all round!

Truth be told, I'm thinking of uploading a photo of a gun next week. It's a bit of an aggressive shot, but it's not *obviously* a gun in that you can't see a trigger or a cylinder. I actually want to post it because of something that cropped up in a discussion yesterday. Suppose the main thing is that I don't want to upset anyone...but I guess it's just par for the course that a few might be offended by the image and what I have to say.

I'm normally quite conventional myself - and it takes a lot to make me speak up...but this really made me think and I want to share my view.

Once again, thank you so much everyone! I hope you're all having a great weekend :)

@goleudy - Every weekend is a great weekend... you know I was gonna sit for another selfie tonight, but I saw an Owl, a Bower bird and a whole bunch of moths! And none of them made it to my project today!

@bobfoto I shall pretend I didn't just Google 'Bower bird'...*cough!* I'm a day ahead with my project, so I'll probably upload in advance later on. Then slap my wrists ;) But c'mon Jason - your public demands another selfie!

@goleudy - you should have seen today's Bower Bird! These guys know how to impress the ladies!

I reckon though, if this week, the bugs and frogs fail, then there is a selfie on the offer!

I think most things are okay, when tastefully done. But I have to agree with @swilde regarding the ages of some 365ers on here. My 7 yr old does 365 and even though he can only get on here with my knowledge and help (and then I'm with him the whole time he uploads and comments etc) he does like to browse the site and is very impressionable re guns/shooting/bad guys etc!! I know there are lots of other kids on here too, because my son looks out for them to follow. I think it's something to bear in mind!!

@kimmiesue Thanks, Kim. After reading a thread on nudity, I was aware that there are quite a few youngsters enjoying 365; and that's partly why I posted my query. The image I have in mind is more aggressive than the commentary: in no way will I be condoning gun violence. I was just astounded by someone's reaction to a discussion recently, and I feel compelled to share my two penn'orth.

Many thanks for your input!

Strangely enough, the most controversial picture I have done so far (in fact, the only photo I have posted which has prompted "Oh, this makes me uncomfortable" comments, was one of a girl mourning a dead friend. The dodgy nude self portraits got positive comments, but that one made people uncomfortable.... interesting...
