Looking to buy a small digital camera with a viewfinder

November 9th, 2011
Can anyone recommend any compact (small not necessarily basic) digital cameras still in production that have an viewfinder? The motor has gone on my compact camera and as it cost around £70 about four years ago its not worth getting it fixed. I want a camera I can stick in my pocket or bag with a reasonable optical zoom preferably for around £100 (something I can take anywhere without worrying it was expensive if I loose or damage it) but would considering paying more if there is a convincing benefit of doing so. I've got a DSLR so fancy shooting modes are neither something I'm looking for or intimidated by. Although I have often used the LCD screen on my now defunct compact there are times (e.g. shooting more distant subjects or in bright light) when I much prefer to use the viewfinder, and I always use the viewfinder with my DSLR.

I am saving to get a Canon g12. It is small has an lcd and viewfinder. You can also change the ISO, F-stop, and shutter speed. It runs a little expensive though. I have been looking for a used Canon G11 that is a little cheaper. I do not know if this what you are looking for or not but that is my two cents worth.

I've a G12 and love it. I find myself using the screen more than I thought I would, but enjoy the viewfinder. The screen pivots out and rotates to almost any angle. I find this very, very useful. There are smaller pocket cameras, but you will have a difficult time finding one more versatile.

I just bought a Panasonic FZ7 in the summer. it has x16 optical zoom, has a viewfinder great functions and some AP and SP settings for shooting so it's not all automatic. Its a great little camera. But if you want to buy new the most recent FZ Panasonic super zoom is like £400. I reckon you'd get the fZ7 for about £100 though. I just bought a canon DSLR and I plan to sell my Panasonic on ebay for about £100. it's got pop up flash and loads of little featues, but its the size of a Terrys chocolate orange box, not very slim.
