I don't know if someone official starts the artists challenges, I think you have to win something, I don't really have much experience with them. But I did a photoshoot today with a Francesca Woodman theme and when I got back on here I thought, hey, this would be easy to replicate, let the dudes on 365 have a crack!
Beyond that I don't know, I don't like competitions because we're all winners, but if you have a go I'll really like you. If you're one of these people who have gotta have a tag then tag it unofficial-woodman.
That seems complicated enough. just let me repeat, I haven't won any previous challenges so this is unofficial, and all you have to do is have fun because there's no closing date and there're no losers!

Oh there might be some nudity in those pics on the link, but meh. If you are offended write me a letter. ;) You get more points if there's nudity in your picture.
@lorraineb@pbelle
at its most basic its just blurred people in rooms, but there's a lot more can be done with derelict settings, nudity, multiple models, there's a lot there to try. Good luck, looking forward to see some!
wowsers. i am intrigued, amazed & inspired,as well as humbled and depressed. lol! thanks for sharing-can't wait to see what wonders others come up with on here!
@chewyteeth Omg I love him too now. I wish I knew some kids I could stick some scary masks on. Hmm...I wonder if I could recreate them, sort of, with dolls and mismatched heads. Thoughts, thoughts, ideas, thinking...
you could, or get on Model Mayhem where models work for free on projects and keep copies of the pictures in payment. simple. @beautifulthing
actual dolls with teddy bear heads would be meatyard/woodman superness.
@chewyteeth Wow. I love Francesca Woodman and think this is a wonderful challenge. Can't imagine pulling it off though. I will enjoy seeing the entries. Already am!
I love your renditions. I just bought a book of her work a few weeks ago. It doesn't seem the type of photography a man would attempt. She was a very intense young woman. Sad for her premature death. I wish more folks would participate in this. (myself included!)
@ptowncook yeah, she killed herself didn't she. I try anything, I usually shy away from man-stuff anyway. I had a male model, but I shoot with models all the time, maybe I'll shoot with a female and develop the idea.
I am resurrecting the world's oldest thread (well, sort of :) ) to tell you that I watched the docu The Woodmans this weekend and now I'm totally re-obsessed with Francesca! Have you seen it??
ha ha the theme that never took off! Well I've got a whole popular vote right now on the btr-movement theme challenge so thats one in the eye for all the non-woodman enthusiasts. I'd love to do loads of cool stuff with Victorian peticoats and fake suicides and crumbling interiors, but the models ain't happening right now. Justifyably bad reputation - models are dicks. I never saw the doc, but I studied her a bit at uni, gotta love those dark images. I like all my artists to have died young, Modigliani, Lennon, Woodman, Schille, Plath, Keats - I think thats why I'm losing interest in my own stuff right now. I think you've noticed already I'm posting pictures of flowers in vases. My housemates have started locking away sharp utensils.
;)
@chewyteeth You really must watch the docu - it's awesome. It profiles her whole family - both of her parents are artists, as well as her brother, which I didn't know. Their family dynamic is fascinating and, of course, most of the docu is about Francesca and her work.
Nothing wrong with the occasional flower in a vase! :) I shoot them too. Sometimes it's okay to give yourself a break on things like that. It can be about composition and light, too, not just subject matter. But, yeah, stay away from the sharp utensils! ;)
I'm going through a little bit of a slump now - haven't taken a picture in over a week, really. I've been sick, for one, and I'm just sort of looking for a breakthrough, I think. I have so many ideas for what I want to be shooting, and I'm not hitting the mark. Just have to buckle down and work harder once I'm on the mend!
Yeah, slump-city. I need to change, I usually don't stick at one thing for a while, and I've been doing the same old stuff for a couple of years now, so I'm itching to emigrate or change jobs or something. You wanna get a load of the weather here too, it's dreadful. I'll look it up. Hope you're feeling better soon - I've not written anything since last November, beat that!! and yeah apart from flowers I've not took a photo for a week too.
;(
@chewyteeth Our weather has been dreadful as well - but I daresay a different kind of dreadful. It's been freakishly hot for our area, like around 100 degrees F hot. Ugh. It makes you not really want to do much of anything, certainly not packing up the cameras and traipsing around to get some shots.
I hate slumps. We need someone to come along and kick us square in the ass and get us out of ours. I've been doing loads of Holga shooting - at least before this week - and that's been fun. But finding subject matter I like is always hard. :(
super hard. and after shooting models a few times now, its actually boring to shoot trees and buildings for me. I don't know, I think where I live is also not very photogenic. meh... I certainly need a good kick up the ass, but also my job might not be there for me in September too, as the university system is changing massively here, fees per year for students has just gone up from about $5000 to $10000 a year, so I work with disabled students and I don't know if they'll get the funding. So its the whole shitty caboodle!
moan moan moan, blah.
on a high note, I've a couple of quid this week and I'm determined to buy a Zorki 4K or maybe a Fed 2... ;)
@chewyteeth I used to work with folks with disabilities too, many moons ago. :)
I'm trying to work up some new ideas for shots and such but, in the meantime, I guess I could spend some time organizing my photos, negatives, and such. It's turning into quite a frightful pile.
The latest camera want of mine is a Fujifilm GA645Zi. It's a more automatic medium format SLR, shoots 6x4.5. Sigh. A girl can dream.

also cool. Have a go, get a naked chick, get her to move around quick while you take pics!

genius, love that top one!!!
