April is a great month to discover the versatility of the letter A! Here's how the challenge goes: Post a picture each day using the word corresponding with the date. You can shoot and process your picture as you see fit. If you're stumped by a word, or are unable to shoot that particular item, there a six words you can swap and one wild card spot which you can use instead. Tag your pictures aprilachallenge. And don't forget to check out the tag every once in a while to see how other 365ers are enjoying the adventure!
@svenskaflicka Good for you Claire! It's a lot of fun and you can take the pictures which ever way you choose so there's a lot of creativity. And when you feel your stuck, you always have a substitute word or wild card to fall back on. Most of all- just enjoy it and have fun! @tandel Well that's a great way to celebrate your birthday Rahul! Wishing you a happy day (a little early) and hope you enjoy your month long celebration on the A Challenge!
this is something I might try for next month, and good idea to have swap-out words b/c I have no idea how I would photograph some of those things listed above. thanks for the info!
@sfeldphotos I'm glad you'll be joining in Sam! You are a very bright young man. I think you'll be up for the challenge. You can always ask your photography club friends to help you with ideas too. I know you're going to like April 1- it's one of your favorite things to shoot- ABSTRACT!!
@olivetreeann Help me out. How am i supposed to post to this project? I need some direction, 'cause im just a little slow. Is there a special link or something i shold post to? Help! I think i would like to do this one ... thanks.
This sounds wonderful fun - I'm going to save it and hope to try it another month... after my 'alphabet hunt' I feel I need freedom to stretch my camera's wings again.
I shall be interested to follow the tag and see what you get up to!
@ggshearron Hi Glover! No trouble at all- you take a photo a day as you usually do using the daily words as a part of your shot. When you are uploading you'll see a line where you can fill in "tags". Enter the words aprilachallenge on that line. This registers your photo so to speak. That way when someone pulls down the browse menu and clicks on "By Tag" they can enter those words and all the photos of the people who have participated in this challenge will pop on to the screen. To upload a picture on this discussion thread (which is optional), pull up the picture, and on the right hand column you'll see a box that says "share". Highlight the information in that box, by right clicking your mouse on the info so that it is highlighted in blue, then left click your mouse and in the options box that appears, click on copy. Go back to the home page, pull up this discussion thread, and scroll down to the comment box and left click paste. Your photo info will appear in the comment box. Then click the comment button and your photo will post on the discussion thread. I hope that makes sense- I'm not 100% fluent in computer-speak! And I'm always hoping that I've remembered all the steps! I'll be looking forward to seeing your photos!
@filsie65 Thanks Phil- wish you were joining us, but I know how you feel. I always think I'll pass on the next one, but actually I find this kind a little less restricting because you can interpret many of the words whatever way you choose. Enjoy your break! Your alphabet was well done!! @leigh7900 Thanks Leigh! I never even saw the sister challenge posted! Sounds interesting. Anyone can set up a challenge, so you could easily post an M challenge in May. For this one, all I did was pull the dictionary off the shelf and pick out an assortment of different words that began with A. Have fun with your sister challenge!
@alia_801 Glad you're in!! And as far as armchairs etc. that's what the subs are for- and there's always the market! I think the security people are used to seeing me taking pictures of stuff now!
@titirez76 Hi Anita! Sorry for the slight delay in my reply. I've been at a family gathering all day. There are 6 words at the end of the dated list that you can swap out at any time/on any date and one wild card to be used in the same way. The swap out words are fairly common - like apple or open-ended (I hope!)- like action and the wild card is "your choice" of any A word that you can come up with (for example, let's say your best friend is named Amanda and you take her picture for the wild card because Amanda begins with A). So let's say you're not a baker, so there's no All-spice in your cupboard. You could take a shot of an apple and put that in there instead. But you know what- I am not a stickler on these things. It's supposed to be fun, so as long as you put up an A shot, it's ok. But it is fun to try to get the word. My first letter challenge was last August and it was all about S. I didn't think I would be able to do it, but I did- and it was fun. So make sure you're having fun. That's first and foremost. I hope that answers your question.
Abstract A ...if you look really close its a tulip!
And its kind of an April fool to because it snowed ten inches a few days ago and now flowers all over
@httpgeffed Absolutely Colleen! It has an abstract flare to me. And look at you little Miss Speedy already posting Monday's pic! Nice! @noragentian Glad you're going to give it a try Ruth! This is a beautiful abstract. I love the smooth wavy lines of the flower. Great shot.
@meandgod Excellent start Kimberly! I hope you enjoy the challenge. I think they're a lot of fun and can really stretch your creative muscles! Glad you're joining us!
@photodreamm Nice shot Rachael. It looks like the beginning of an adventure story to me. One day four friends went through the garden gate to see what they could see...
@titirez76@photodreamm Great shots for the word abraisive Anita and Rachael! Interestingly I took some shots of steel wool scrubbies and sand paper this morning. We'll see which one gets posted!
Rose buds ajar (I know this is not the usual interpretation of the word, but it fits by definition, and I'm the type that likes to be creative, and put a different spin on things.)
@ Rachael....ooops...don't know how that happened. I THOUGHT I was doing them in order, just a simple mistake. Will have to flip-flop just those 2, and be back on track tomorrow : )
@photodreamm Great wildcard Rachael! I don't know what happened to me yesterday- each and every one of my altar shots was blurry beyond hope! So I will be reaching into my archives for that shot! I like being in church, but I wouldn't mind having my ankles in the surf right now either!!
@photodreamm Well you covered just about every household adhesive I can think of Rachael!! Good one! @tammyreidy Love that stuff Tammy! You've got some very colorful adhesives!
@photodreamm No- there are a number of people participating, but not many of them are posting the pictures here. If pull down the browse menu and click on "by tag" you can type aprilachallenge in the search box and it should pull up some of the other pictures.
Hi all! Just sending a friendly reminder that some of us have been posting our April A Challenge pictures on the challenge discussion thread and we'd love to see some of your shots here too! To do that, highlight the picture info in the share box and left click on "copy". Then paste that info in the comment box at the end of this thread. When the info appears in the box, click on comment and your picture will show up in the discussion thread. Can't wait to see what you've all been up to!
I used pick your own A today because I couldn't resist showing off my little model...I am blessed as a photographer to gave two of the most patient loving BRAVE little models
@marilyn Marilyn, I'm so glad you posted your shots here. I haven't had a chance to see what will come up when I type in the tag. You've got some great shots for the challenge! An actual arrow, a comfy arm chair, a beautiful altar- they're all so well-done! I'm looking forward to seeing more! Thanks again for sharing some of your excellent shots!
@photodreamm You are too funny Rachael!! (I don't take baths either!! But sometimes I do take a hot shower with just the night light on when I am trying to ward off a migraine.)
April 17 - Artifact
From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/artifact:
ar·ti·fact 1. any object made by human beings, especially with a view to subsequent use.
Next up Asleep. No adorable grandchildren visiting at present, so once again, a "store-bought" shot from the tea aisle in the supermarket!
The comment for this one read: One cup of this and you'll be asleep in no time.
And here's the entry for Aggie.
After searching my home high and low, I discovered only one marble! The idea to put in a bowl of glass stones came from the pharmacy store manager who was surprised there were no marbles in their toy section, but very eager to help come up with an alternate solution.
@marilyn Love it! And I would enjoy driving on any one of those roads even if they all seem alike! I love long, open stretches of road on a day with blue skies!
@marilyn Thank you Marilyn. Yes, they are all hand-thrown but not by me. Here's the run down: the top center with green handle and white dots was purchased in Israel from a well-known ceramicist there. The next two to the right were made by a potter I knew in NJ. I discovered her from a mailing she sent out and for a few years gave myself one of her mugs for Christmas. The bottom center came from a ceramics shop in Colorado near Red Rocks. The brown mug with white dots on the left was bought at a craft fair ages ago- early 80's! And the top left mug was a gift from my daughter-in-law and is my favorite mug for tea. I have a few more, but these made the best picture, and I do love the story that goes with each one.
Wow! I definitely thought I'd be using a substitute word today- but then I remember Jeff had one pair of argyle socks (that were a freebie and he never wears!!).
@photodreamm Wow- is that a program you have? I think that might be a bit scary to see what aging will do. It's bad enough facing it when it truly happens! lol Cool shot.
@olivetreeann hehehe nope those are my moms feet if you look close we have different but alike flip flops on....i won't mention to her you think her feet are scary ! Lmbo
I need to post quite a few, had no time for web posting for a while, so here goes. This is my shot for "amusement" (switched around since I accidentally posted "ajar" on the day i should have posted "amusement"). A full description of the background on this photo collage is posted on my main page.
My wildcard pick since I couldn't find any artichokes, was "attention" which this cat very much sought out, as well as this attentive pose I finally caught her in.
@marilyn Oh- tricky place to get to!! Great additions to our April A Challenge Marilyn- I'm overdue to put mine up. Time to get busy. Thanks for posting all your shots!
Some of the young ladies in our youth group took part in a fashion show modeling wedding gowns from ladies in our congregation. They are all really close friends. Amigo:
i would like to try it..
it's my b'day on "April fool's Day" so the day on fool born will try to complete this challenge....
@tandel Well that's a great way to celebrate your birthday Rahul! Wishing you a happy day (a little early) and hope you enjoy your month long celebration on the A Challenge!

They were too expensive to buy and bring home so I shot them in the store!

Aggie - this one took awhile. Really thought I'd have an easier time finding marbles to work with.
Back to playing catch up. Here is "alike".
