The challenge buddies @olivetreeann@summerfield and @alia_801 have been at it again. We've cooked up another monthly challenge to inspire or jumpstart your creativity. Or, you can just plain have fun with it! We've been enjoying the weekly format so we decided to continue on with that format this month. We welcome anyone who'd like to join in whether it's just for a week or for the whole month. Here's the break down:
August 1-5: Alia's Challenge
Take a shot depicting an Olympic sport in honor of the world's greatest competition (next to the World Cup in Ann's humble opinion!). See if your followers can guess which sport you've chosen.
August 6-12 Go for the Gold!
We'll continue paying tribute to the Olympics by shooting a picture that uses one of the colors from the Olympic rings and medals. Monday: silver; Tuesday: Blue; Wednesday: yellow; Thursday: black; Friday: green; Saturday: red; Sunday: Gold
It's your choice on how you want to shoot them- abstract or natural, but the color of the day has to be the predominant color in your shot.
August 13-19: Summerfield's Challenge
If you know Vikki, you know she's a curious person! Vikki's got questions and your photos will give her the answers:
Monday: What did you have for breakfast?
Tuesday: What did you do in the morning?
Wednesday: What did you have for lunch?
Thursday: What did you do in the afternoon?
Friday: Who are you? Take a selfless selfie. Vikki really likes these!
Saturday: What did you have for dinner?
Sunday: Who's in your family or where do you worship?
August 20-26: Olivetreeann's Challenge:
Sometimes when I (Ann) is stumped for something to shoot I play a little game with myself. I walk into a room and give myself 30 seconds to take as many pictures as I possibly can. The idea behind this is to look and think quickly but freely. So this week your challenge is to pick a room or object and play the 30 second game. You can choose black and white, sepia or color. Any genre is fine, but sometimes it's also fun to play this game out of your comfort zone. So if you always shoot color, try it in black and white or sepia. Shoot quickly and freely, then choose your favorite shot each day and post it.
August 27-31: So long to the season!
One of the things that we've truly enjoyed about 365 is the banter about the seasons- especially since some of us are the opposite end of the seasonal spectrum! So for the last five days of August take shots of what you will miss or not miss about the season you're in (or both!). For some of you this will be summer; for others it's winter. Tell us why you will or why you won't be missing the subject of your photo.
Tag your photo awesome-august and as always we look forward to what you'll come up with!
@boogie Looking forward to it Mags! @summerfield lol you'd better be in Vikki! @allyssaallor Looking forward to your pictures Allyssa! @soothingbeauty Glad you'll be joining us Breanna! @wenbow Glad you're liking it Wendy!
This seems like an interesting challenge but I don't think showing what I had for breakfast that day would be representative of my mom's birthday. Other than that, I think I am up for the challenge!
@sfeldphotos Glad you'll be joining us Sam! Why don't you take a shot of your mom's birthday cake that day instead? I think we can handle the substitution!
i'm in, although it will be difficult during summerfield's week as i don't eat all those meals and live such a boring life you guys are going to fall asleep. . . big snores all around!
@la_photographic Glad you're joining us Laura! No- any Olympic sport you want. @cookie123 I do the same thing Bernadette! The minute I "sign-up" for a challenge, I'm plotting photos! @pjonas thanks Patty! You did a fantastic job on the thumbnail challenge. I can't wait to see what you do on this one! @catsmeowb I'm glad you'll be joining us Camille and I'm certain your life is not as boring as you think! Feel free to adjust that week accordingly! Maybe instead of the meals you could photograph some of your favorite foods- that might give you a little freedom in subject matter. I'm a little worried about the lunch shot- I usually eat the odds and ends leftovers in our frig for lunch! I guess on that day I'll have to treat myself to a "real" lunch!
LOL- i will figure it out but those are wonderful suggestions. i love to cook but am very fussy about what i eat. this could be very good for me, actually, as skipping meals was just the lecture i received from my doctor - guess that is a big no-no if a person has sugar issues. always something to worry about, isn't there? the more weight i lose, the more i have to be careful of and i thought it was the other way around! she says it all has to do with family history. bah humbug.
@olivetreeann Thanks for this. I take it that there is no problem taking photos of the Olympics on tv. I would only manage to get a couple of days out of the 1 olympic sport I participate in myself and don't have access to many others (apart from sailing which I occassionally see on a Sunday).
Okay, I think I"m in. I'm truly already stumped for ideas for the first week though. So, I'll have to see some ideas when y'all post something on Aug 1...I'm such a copycat. :-)
@catsmeowb Oh my Camille- yes! Don't mess around with those sugar issues!! And all good weight loss programs tell you not to avoid eating, but to eat right! I'm sure you'll figure out a plan that works well for you- and based on what you like and is good for you to eat. Just think of it this way- the better you eat, the more pictures you'll be able to shoot for 365! lol @la_photographic Sure- that's fine Laura. I'm not the "Challenge Police"! (o: @speedy0901 Great Allison! Glad you'll be joining us! @henrir They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery Henri, so copying sounds good to me!! Thanks to a few doo-dads around the house and the fact that I swim each day, I have a few shots I can do- but I'm wondering what I'll do for the fifth day. I guess I'll be keeping my eye open for ideas! Oh wait, I think I just thought of one... stay tuned!
Ok, I've not done any challenges so far, or tagging, or even ventured into Discussions/Themes/Competitions... I'm going to give it a try as my creativity seems very stretched at the moment and I feel a little flat :(
I like participating in your challenge. I think I am mostly in on this one but may change out a few for my day 365 and our county fair and band camp. August is fun here.
@jackie8 Thanks Jackie- I hope it turns out to be a lot of fun for you and gives you the jumpstart you're looking for. @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! No problems with that- you might even find a way to combine what's going on with all those activities and the assignment for the day- who knows!
@olivetreeann Im in!! I already have some Olympic Size Idea's Ready! LOL!! we shall see what Awesome August has in Store for Me!!! Love y'alls Ideas and cant wait to get Started!! :0)...This will be my 3rd month in a row..i am so proud of myself for sticking with these challenges for so long..usually i dont like to be pinned down to anything! This has given me structure and is making me be more Creative I like That!! I just want to Thank all Three of you for the Awesome weeks Ahead! :)
@ellimae Thanks Ellen- I can feel that enthusiasm spilling out of my computer! I have to give credit to Alia- she keeps us going and feels the challenges give her direction each day. I have to go back and look at 2011 but I know I started doing them with Alia one month and we've been doing them back and forth ever since. I'm glad I've got the two albums because sometimes I get a shot that I want to post that has nothing to do with the challenge. But as far as thinking up a shot every day- I find the challenges do the same for me as they do for you. I think I'm forced to be even more creative when there's a few stipulations attached!
I really want to give this a try. I hope I can do it. Will be traveling and babysitting grandchildren, but as I look at the list I think I can work around it. Looks like great fun. Thanks for hosting it.
@yonnie Glad you'll be joining us Yvonne! I think you can do it too- not everything has to be literal (as in the sport shots- you don't need to shoot athletes in action) and I bet those grandchildren will be happy to help you with the colors (if they're old enough to know them!). And they will cetainly enjoy Summerfield's week with all that food!
@henrir You can post your pictures in here if you want- but the best way to see all the submissions is to type the tag "awesome-august" in the search box and then search. It should pull up all the submissions to the challenge for you there.
In a world where more people die of overeating than starvation, education and program's like Michelle Obama's "let's Move" are increasingly vital. So it is funny and sad to find these tributes to the athletes of the Olympics in McDonalds. Spongebob was created by a marine Biology Student here at Humboldt State University, as he doodled in his notebooks during lectures. I loved this pre-opening ceremony moment with the First Lady, David Beckham and Spongebob.
@adriana12345 Nice shot Adriana! That looks like it's a medal from a competition. Do you compete? Two of my nieces did while they were in high school. They loved it.
@pandorasecho lol You do understand that there is a rather wide variety of background colors you can choose, so there may be more collages in your future! And if you really want to have fun, once you've exhausted all the templates on Picmonkey, you can also make collages on iPiccy (for free!) and they have every color under the sun available as well!! And then of course there is the reincarnation of Picnik in Ribbet!
@summerfield I was wondering if instead of tomorrow morning I could have one from tomorrow afternoon as between 1 & 2 there is a homecoming celebration for the 2 boxers from Belfast who won medals in the Olympics. I will take 1 in the morning & hopefully will get 1 in the afternoon (so it would be great to have that for tomorrow's image).
@la_photographic - sure! it is, after all, your whatever tickles your fancy tickles mine, too. i don't know what i was thinking when i suggested the challenge as my mornings are one big snore: i work in a business legal firm and i can tell you, working in a business legal firm is devoid of anything exciting. :-) and of course, we are excited to see your olympians! so, go for it, laura!
@summerfield@olivetreeann Oh, I wish I had seen this, but it was just too hectic for me to pay enough attention. You guys make up some good challenges!
@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth! Yes, I think you would have had some fun with this one. But there's always something going on and I think Alia is planning out September's so keep your eyes open for that one. By the way, I'm eventually posting a picture duo I took just for you! It's been so crazy trying to catch up on everything! I'll make sure to tag you when I do so that you wont' miss it!
