I’m so excited and honored to be hosting my first and favorite challenge here on 365. If I’ve messed anything up here please let me know. After looking through the list of all of the past artists I didn’t see a lot of woman and after just finishing up with Weston and all of his beautiful black and whites I’ve decided to go with one of the first pioneers of color portrait photography and an innovator of her time, Madame Yevonde! She is chiefly remembered for her work of the 1930s, which did much to make color photography respectable. I chose her also because I wanted to choose someone I didn’t know that much about. I was drawn towards her for her timeless goddess portraits and her play with surrealism. If you don’t like portraits don’t worry she also has stills and was very modern for her time. I hope you enjoy learning about Madame Yevonde as much as I did and I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Madame Yevonde’s most famous quote is “Be original or die” so have fun and be original……. But please Don’t Die ☺
The rules are fairly simple: study the genre (Google will help you here) and then :
Take a photograph recreating a particular work as closely as possible to the original or photograph something in a style that is reminiscent of her work- mood, light, composition, colour. Or you could just take a concept from her work and make it your own. Have fun!
