[Theme] Workers

October 3rd, 2010
Wow, so the Voting for last week was the closest we've ever had! Fortunately for Theresa, her photo won by just 1 vote! See her photo here

I contacted Theresa and here is what she had to say on choosing this weeks theme...

------------------------------------------
Since receiving word that I won the lines competition, I have been consumed with selecting a theme that would be focused yet open. Knowing that 365er's come from across the globe and bring varied culture, climates, habitats and regional based schema to the project, I pushed myself to select a theme that could speak to everyone interested, no matter their location or time zone.

Quite a challenge when I don't want to disappoint the 365er's who have taught me so much...and I admire greatly.

So, with that said, I have selected the theme of WORKERS. I come from the state of Michigan which is now sadly the most hard hit state of the 50 United States by the recession. Michiganders learned this week that what we have felt for the past ten years has been verified: Workers here have experienced the sharpest income plunge nationally. I know that this is not just a Michigan attribute. These struggles have been felt by people worldwide.

In my community, I have been struck by how hard people are working to raise their families, communities and nation out of these hard times. I am also amazed by the type of work that people do now---and the new professions/careers that have risen out of the economic challenges.

I would like to challenge everyone to capture the theme of workers however you choose to highlight the drive, need, passion and/or day to day survival to make ends meet.

A collection of photos that can jump start your creative juices can be found here, GOOGLE WORKER IMAGES, but know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. HAVE FUN...and many thanks for your support in the development of my photographic skills and addiction!

Congratulations I love your field photo. I rarely photograph people, so maybe this will push me out of my comfort zone. Always a good thing.
October 4th, 2010
Congrats Theresa! Your theme sounds like a great challenge thanks!

Great job Theresa! Very good point about Michigan workers. Where in MI do you live? I also am not comfortable photographing people; it will be another challenge. thank you.

How important is it for the theme shots to be actually taken & uploaded in the week it was meant for? I have seen photos with tags for the week's theme shot & they were not taken that week at all or some are just shown as being uploaded that week but the shots were obviously taken much earlier. Can we actually get away with not sticking to the time frame stipulated in theme-shots?

Congratulations, Theresa! Cool theme choice. :)

Congratulations, Theresa! As a school principal, I know you're a tireless worker yourself, so how good of you to think of others for this theme. The idea should bring us a lot of variety from across the globe; brilliant concept!
October 4th, 2010
Congrats Theresa, I think this will be a tough but very cool theme

Congrats! Hmmm, I have to put on my thinking cap...should be fun :-)

@miraries - I believe ONLY the ones taken and uploaded during the given times are eligible for the top 5 vote.
October 4th, 2010
Great theme choice and well done - you got my vote!
October 5th, 2010
Guess I won't be submitting pictures of my students! ha ha ;)
October 5th, 2010
Thanks, Carol-Ann. Now I understand why I see a few with old dates. They just post them so they have an entry for the theme & don't expect to be in the TOP 5. Fair enough. Sometimes you just have a great photo that suits the theme & you're itching to post it but don't because of wrong dates. Well, that's not gonna stop me now.

congratz! well, should have listened to my instincts today when watching a construction crew next door. I almost took some shots. There's always tomorrow.

Great Theresa.... and thanks for giving us the workers theme, as it made me look up some hard workers.

I'm just trying to find the new theme tag as on my blog the weekly theme is still showing as workers - so how do you get to the new theme?

@Scrivna please see my post above. Thanks for setting up this site - it's giving so much pleasure.
