Official Raw Competition

October 4th, 2013
OK - the idea is simple - I will share a link to a RAW file, and if you want to enter, download the file, reprocess, and upload. In a weeks time we will vote on which we think is the best, and that person will then share a RAW file for uploading.

For the first round the file can be found at IMG_0560.dng

Please tag your photo RAWCOMP-1, and then on the 11th of October we will judge.

Enjoy

This is my version

@iwatts Ian I wanted to play but I can't seem to open the file can you help me please.
October 5th, 2013
@elaine55 Clicking on the link above should now work, but it is a RAW file so you have to have software that can edit RAW files. I will give you an alternative link if that doesn't work.

October 5th, 2013
@iwatts Ok Ian no need to worry I have the file now.
October 5th, 2013
@iwatts thanks Ian I can't seem to open it in Photoshop Elements so will try the other link.
October 5th, 2013
@elaine55 It is a DNG file - don't now if that makes a difference
October 5th, 2013
@elaine55 @iwatts PSE takes .dng files. I have to use a converter from Adobe to get my .raw into .dng for editing in PSE.

I'll try it tonight and let you know.
October 5th, 2013
@byrdlip Thanks - I want to get this off the ground as I think it would be an interesting competition. Just need a bit of support with the technical details
October 5th, 2013
It does sound like an interesting idea. Hope we can get it working.

Some dust on the sensor along the upper right? A few spots removed quickly in this effort as well as the tonal adjustments and smoothing on the resulting sky. As with Alexis, @abirkill, a little more care on selecting the mask for the sky could have reduced the "halo" effect on the top of the treeline.

This is my edit: Hope you like it!
October 5th, 2013
@elaine55 @iwatts just a followup, downloaded and loaded into PSE. will do something with it in the next couple of days.
October 5th, 2013
What fun. I've just learned more about PSE in the last ten minutes than I have in the last 5 years. Will post later
October 5th, 2013
Sounds like a great idea, can't wait to try it out when I get a chance next week!
October 5th, 2013
@iwatts Here is mine! I love B&W landscapes...

October 5th, 2013
Had a blast with this in short time...it was like a free pass to play with CS6.

and then I played with something else called gradient, and it went b&w and I LIKED it!!
October 5th, 2013
Thanks all for the response - looks like it will be popular. It is really quite freaky to see how other people interpret your own photograph. Looking forward to seeing the rest next week.
October 5th, 2013
Here is my attempt

Thank you for getting me out of my rut! ~ I was considering leaving, but this has sparked my interest again :-)
October 5th, 2013
@alisonp That is so good to here - that was part of the reason I did it - it adds another dimension. I just love seeing what people are doing with my photograph. It's great for inspiration.
October 5th, 2013
and another :-) ~ I could spend all day playing with this ~ but its my mothers birthday today, so I have a busy day out ...

October 5th, 2013
@thomastoth I like yours Thomas!
@alisonp This is great also Allison!
October 5th, 2013
@iwatts Great idea Ian! I love it and I love the response! Is there a time limit? I wanna play but I have a busy weekend ahead....
October 5th, 2013
@lynnb ohhhhh I like the B/W too!!
October 5th, 2013
11th October we will start voting - it gives you a week.
October 5th, 2013
@alisonp That is great Alison - Love it.
October 5th, 2013
I want to try it too, maybe. But I don't want to upload it here. Because I upload at 365project.org only photos I shoot myself. Is it ok, if I upload somewhere else?
October 5th, 2013
I noticed this being done by Alison @alisonp and thought it looked interesting. Here is my attempt =)
October 5th, 2013

I have used Darktable and Gimp and tried really everything I know to get the most out of it.

Ah, now I understand the need of tags. Hope this entry is ok, if I do upload at Google Drive. So I cannot use tags for it. If this is not acceptable, then you have my apologies. And does it matter how many entries one person have?

Edit: Here is a black and white conversion from the output above.

Edit: Deleted the links. Hmm, sorry for this. Then just ignore my postings.
October 5th, 2013
@wayoflife Looks great - upload it to your album and tag it - then it will show on the tags page.
October 5th, 2013
@wayoflife Just read your other post - it is going to get messy if we can't view them all in one place - i.e. the tags page. I would rather they be uploaded on here so that they can all be viewed together. It would become too much hassle to have to keep clicking on links, rather than viewing all in one place.
October 5th, 2013
@iwatts Ok, I understand. But this is a nogo for me. I have deleted the links here.
October 5th, 2013
@wayoflife OK - no worries. It is just a bit of fun. I use one of my other albums for things like this.
October 5th, 2013
This was fun! I tried to go 'dark and spooky'.

Note: I had a filler spot back in April in my extras album, but obviously, this edit was done this week after you posted it, Ian.
October 5th, 2013
@taffy Cool - I am blown away at what people are doing with my photo - I can't wait for next week when I get to play with someone else's.
October 5th, 2013
@iwatts I just love this idea -- I find I'm much freer with YOUR photo than I would have been with one of my own!
October 6th, 2013
@byrdlip thanks I will attempt another go at it although I am in the process of changing laptops at the moment so I may not get it done in time. Thank you for the response.
October 6th, 2013
Started image in lightroom 4.4 and then took it into gimp and snapseed

October 6th, 2013
Here is my go for the challenge. I noticed quite a few dust marks .... have not edited them out as I only reprocessed rather than edited (if that makes sense!)

October 6th, 2013
@willowdragon Thanks - feel free to edit. RAW is just the starting point. Plenty have moved into photoshop etc to remove sensor dust.
October 6th, 2013
Ian, great idea. I learned a lot in this process. I am hoping to see this challenge on a regular basis. Here is my version:

Sunset at the Lake

October 6th, 2013
What a great idea Ian, thanks a lot. My effort is on the page now, cheers, Mick.
October 7th, 2013
October 7th, 2013
Fun seeing everyone's different takes on this photo! Thanks, Ian.
October 7th, 2013
Keeping with the current autumn theme, I wanted color and details but NOT an HDR look. I also removed some of the "junk" in the water.

October 7th, 2013
Thanks for starting this Ian it was fun. I did get a bit carried away with cropping mine!!
October 7th, 2013
@paulaw Glad you had fun
October 8th, 2013
Had another pop at this, added some fog/mist to the water this time
