Toyland Follies

December 1st, 2013
My house is, quite simply, a carpet of toys. I have a five-year-old and a one-and-a-half-year-old, and boy do they have TOYS. For other parents (or possibly grandparents) who have this same deluge of playthings--this is for you!

As far as my inspiration for this challenge goes: have you heard of the "Dinovember" pictures currently making their way around Facebook? If you haven't, do a skate through Google Images, or check out the official explanation here: https://medium.com/thoughts-on-creativity/6f4cb1886d41 There are dinosaurs raiding the candy jar...dinosaurs breaking things and playing with crayons...dinosaurs interrogating a Ninja Turtle...you get the idea. Creative and fun.

This month, once I have finished picking up the toys and putting them away for the night, I plan to play with them myself, and photograph them doing interesting things they don't do when the kids are awake. My daughter has some Princess toys that I've already played with in the past, and come up with shots like this one:

I am not limiting myself to Princesses in homicide scenarios, or dinosaurs, or a particular activity or theme...but I will be shooting the toys and posting the results. From a technical standpoint, I'm hoping to play around with composition, lighting, staged shots, and macro. From a creative standpoint--come on, how much fun is this? ;)

So if you'd like to join in for a day or a week or the whole month of December, I will be tagging these photos toylandfollies. Happy playtime!

Side note: we're coming up on the end of the year, which is also the end of MY first year of 365. I took a "sabbatical" this summer, and I have holes to fill in. My goal is to fill them all up by New Year's Eve, so I am doubling up on the photos this month. I will be doing this theme concurrently with my "Blue Christmas" theme, which I posted in this forum yesterday, if you're interested in "double dipping" along with me, or sampling from one or the other on occasion. :)

After seeing the Princess Murder picture I have to follow you to see what you come up with.

@mcrt Hee hee. I get a little cynical about the Princesses. There shouldn't be too much killin' this month. ;) Thanks for the follow.
