As 2013 comes to an end, and we look forward to 2014, I would like to challenge everyone who has been on The Project for the past year to look over their entries and from a personal point of view:
1) What was the best picture that you took during 2013? Deep down in your heart, which photo do you take the most pride in? Many definitions of the best exists, so step up and say so. For ace members, it does not have to be the one that shows up on your Your Top Rated Photos, not that that is a poor metric, but that is a peoples choice award and that is not what I'm asking.
2) What is the picture that you wish you hadn't taken? The idea was there, but it just didn't make it, but you posted it anyway.
So between Dec 25th and Dec31st, you can post them here using the copy and paste box on the lower right of your image to this thread, or tag your existing image with bestof2013 or worstof2013.
So show off what you did. Comments should always be constructive. There are no prizes, just a reflection of your work.
And as soon as I get the house cleaned from the Christmas party, I will choose mine.
This one - easy to pick my worst, hated it so much but went and posted it anyway through sheer desperation
This one means something to me, makes me grateful to be a female now rather than the time when this unfortunate woman was around
hmmm... interesting question... is really making me think... if i had to show one shot, and only one shot, to someone who didn't know me, which one would i pick? i'm having a real hard time with this... i think i could get it down to a best 3 or 4... but the best 1? i'm picking this one... it isn't the one that i think would most instantly "sell"... but i think it is one that combines decent quality with the kind of edginess i generally like...
as for the one i wish i hadn't posted (not hadn't shot, btw... when in doubt, i think one should ALWAYS take the shot and weed out later ;p)... there are waaaaay too many to count...
but this one sticks out... an example of etsooi gone horribly wrong... if you can't set a good example, at least you can be a horrible warning!
So hard to narrow down to just 1 but I think it's this one.
I don't get to shoot sunsets all that often so when I had an hour free to watch and shoot, I made the most of it.
My highlight of the year, I managed to photograph the Aurora Borealis from UK/Ireland on a clear night with fairly good activity. Quite a challenging feat from UK/Ireland
I've had some bad shots, but they've served their purpose. Sometimes I post a picture to get some advice on technique. I'm still working on how to take a picture of a lot of cakes, and have them all in focus and not turn out like this:
@byrdlip The blasted fudge cake. They look so much nicer when I cut them by hand, but time is an issue, and I have to use the machine. I have to torch the top before I use the machine or it cracks. It always makes me sad because it's such a pretty cake before I cut it. Those are supposed to be swooping granny swirls.
I've only been here since November, but I thought I'd post anyway. This is my favorite photo--I love low-key shots and I really like the way this one turned out. Plus, it's my favorite kitty in the world.
This one is my worst. Uninspired, no real meaning..just needed a shot for the day and this is the dreadful outcome.
Both of mine are from mundane challenges.Neither made it to the finals of the challenge they were created for but one I love, the other is horrid.
This was one of my first attempts at black and white processing for the tin can challenge and I was really very happy with the result:
This was my first attempt at abstract for the mundane thread challenge and was very,VERY ill conceived lol.
This one always makes me smile. I like the focus on the house finch's head, the light tips to the feathers, the way he's standing on two different branches, the shade of green in the background...just makes me happy.
ok, found a few possibilities for worst, but this has to be the very worst. what was I thinking? at least I acknowledged its rubbishness at the time in my comment!
and then best, difficult isn't it. I found a few favourites, containing my kids, or holiday memories, but best? I think I'm going to go for this one. I think the clarity and the teeny flare are quite good
I started in late July. I really enjoy the EOTB challenge and had a couple that could qualify as my faves. Since I'm limited to one, here it is:
It made the top five for the challenge that time around.
It's not that I wish I hadn't taken this one, it's just my least favorite, however i'm glad i took it. It's my first photo for 365, so it got me started with a fantastic bunch of people, all so encouraging and helpful, I've had a few comments that pointed out how to improve a photo, and took the advice with to heart. Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to a continued learning experience.
Best of 2013. I like the shape of the butterfly cluster. And it was a challenge to photograph them as they were way up in the trees. I'm also glad to be able to show something like this to people who don't live someplace where they can see this phenomena in person. It may be a little blown out in parts but I like it anyway.
Worst? Hmmm...there are a few to choose from. I would say this is the worst. It's not very sharp, the composition is uninteresting, and there's no clear subject other than some turkeys. However, in 365 there are days like that where there is no time to figure out a good photo, and I'm proud to say that at least I got a shot! Haven't missed a day yet.
@featherstone We live in an area that has lots of big, wonderful birds to photograph and my husband said just yesterday how the little guys get no attention. Well, you've certainly proven that wrong. This is a wonderful picture. How about a holiday card for next year?
I've been really enjoying do abstracts this year. I have a lot that I am pretty proud of but this is one of my favorites. Don't ask how I did it, just let your imagination do the work. :-)
If I had to pick one of the worst, this year, it would be this. Simply because I was being lazy. It doesn't fit anything that I am doing and I was just being lazy. I always go back to that photo as an example of what I don't want to do. ;-)
@pcarlaw I am jumping up and down with excitement to see the Monarchs this January!I only hope I can get as wonderful a shot as you got!And although I know your critique is honest...I love your turkeys because I love those birds!
@featherstone going to fav that one if I haven't already!I am telling you..submit your images to the magazine Birds and Blooms.I would buy a calendar with your bird images!
My worst (in my opinion, but there many contenders) in 2013...I hadn't taken a photo all day. I was staying at a hotel for a girlfriends' getaway. Realized I had no photo. I actually laid down on the "iffy" carpet and took a photo of my suitcase. Then found out it was my roommate's suitcase! Was unwilling to go through that again, so posted it as mine. It was pathetic...
@primitiveprobe Hm... I'm glad you like it, but I prefer the first over the second, because the first one is full of colozrs and life, whereas the second one is blurry and dull...
@primitiveprobe@lichtecht Interesting discussion. Some of my "oh...just go ahead and post it" photos get rave reviews while others I like get hardly a mention. Guess we can't please everyone and that's why it's called art.
@pcarlaw I agree, I think getting rave reviews on the photos you don't like yourself is an important part of the learning process, and is one of the reasons why the 365 project is such a good way to learn.
Love this theme - it is nice to have an excuse to look back at the last year's pics.
This is my favourite, not my most popular, but even though it was taken at the end of a rather stressful experience, looking at it makes me feel fortunate and happy.
And here is the one I wish I hadn't posted (well needed to post anyway) not least because the result of it means that I lost the photo above without ever having printed it. BACK UP AND KEEP YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE UP TO DATE FOLKS!!!!
This is my favorite, because I have been working on getting a macro shot like this one for quite a while.
This is my least favorite. I took this shot, because I was working on taking shots of circles. However, there is no meaning behind the shot other than that. It is also not a good quality shot.
The birth of my daughter was my favourite shot of the year, but if we're talking BEST shot, its a really tough choice, although this one has to be up there.
Having taken the time to go thru my own 365 for 2013, I can only come up with five shots that I would put into my "best" category. And of the five, this is the one that, to me, was the real challenge to take:
I would think this would be number two: Out to Dinner. The others were being at the right place at the right time with a camera.
Lots of things that I tried and posted are on the list of worst for the year. Some I look back on and wonder why I took them in the first place.
This one I think is my worst. Although a nice subject I could have taken so many better shots of an allotment garden. But hey ho, it's how we learn. I have loved every minute of my year of photos, tomorrow making it the last one and completing 365.
My best--because everything I wanted to achieve came through with it:
My worst--because I was in a hurry to snap the picture before my son had to catch his school bus. I didn't do any of the things that I knew would make a good picture because we were so rushed:
I started in September, can I still do it?
For 2 Oh there are far too many !!!
Worst one: this one. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it really is rubbish.
This one means something to me, makes me grateful to be a female now rather than the time when this unfortunate woman was around
This one I really like as I managed to find an original angle on a cliche photo spot, the Opera house in Oslo, Norway
as for the one i wish i hadn't posted (not hadn't shot, btw... when in doubt, i think one should ALWAYS take the shot and weed out later ;p)... there are waaaaay too many to count...
but this one sticks out... an example of etsooi gone horribly wrong... if you can't set a good example, at least you can be a horrible warning!

The light in this photo is horrible. Too bad too because they were being really cute.
This one is my worst. Uninspired, no real meaning..just needed a shot for the day and this is the dreadful outcome.
This was one of my first attempts at black and white processing for the tin can challenge and I was really very happy with the result:
This was my first attempt at abstract for the mundane thread challenge and was very,VERY ill conceived lol.
I'd say this next one is my worst. It was Day #3 of the project, and everything about it just says "blah."
This is my worst. I didn't like the focus, composition or how I edited it, but somehow I posted it anyway.
My best - well I have some favourites, but my favourites are not necessarily the best, so I'll go with this one as my best.
and then best, difficult isn't it. I found a few favourites, containing my kids, or holiday memories, but best? I think I'm going to go for this one. I think the clarity and the teeny flare are quite good
this is a great thread by the way :--)
It made the top five for the challenge that time around.

And my worst:
This is my worse of the year 2013. This is my first photo when I sign up.
I have way too much bad shots to pick one, it's a process.
get it..process
nobody appreciates a good pun
WORST:
My worst

Happy New Year everyone.
My worst--because I was in a hurry to snap the picture before my son had to catch his school bus. I didn't do any of the things that I knew would make a good picture because we were so rushed:
my worst, just a snap of the road.
Worst along with a few others
