There was a lot of interest in having a "Macro March" theme running during the month of March. Since some of you around-the-world folks are already into March, I wanted to be sure and get the post up now.
So here's the idea: if you take a macro (or close-up) photograph during the month of March, tag it with macro-march and/or post it to this discussion to share with others. Take one, take several, take a whole month's worth - it's up to you!
My one suggestion: everyone loves comments and feedback on their photographs. So, if you tag or post a photo for macro-march, why not also spend a minute searching the macro-march tag and comment on two other photographs? That way, it can be a self-perpetuating macro feedback ring!
For those that want something a little more to go on, I thought we could make an "unofficial idea" for the week. So, if you wish, you can spend this first week thinking about the idea of depth of field and focus. Share your thoughts below or on your photos. You can also read more about depth of field, and a few other macro topics in my newest post, Tips to Improve Your Macro Photography.
Apologies if I missed tagging you - there were quite a lot of posts to scroll through! Please let me know in the comments if you would like to be tagged in future posts.
I don't think I'll be doing a macro every day, but I'll be sure to tag them when I do. Thanks for doing such bang-up job on the book club Katie! I'll be leaving some feedback on the discussion when I'm feeling a little better- hopefully tomorrow.
I agree about searching the tag and commenting on people's pics. I like those little "microcosms" here on Project365. I still have some people who tag their shots EOINA (Everything Old is New Again), which is those of us who have been on here several years but have rededicated to a " photo a day" no matter what. I think Macro March is going to be fun. I know I will be doing some shots for this!
@aponi I am glad I am not the only one who gets stares from the neighbors! At least, with my macro lens and hood on it, it looks like I "know what I must be doing." haha
HELP??? A Lily flower in its infancy. I took over 100 pics. I have a studio light hooked directly to my camera. I need help with how to get better focus. I have the aperture shut down and the shutter where it should be. The focus point is still not sharp.
It's going to be fun to do a sort of before and after to see if we get better. For a fact my B&W images got better as we progressed, at least I think they did.
here is day 1 - we break out the tripod and get a clear image
@livealittle Notice you said you don't have a macro lens. Have you tried close up filters? Not expensive - about £15 - 20 for a set of four. Shot above was taken with a X 10
Sorry I just noticed you asked if we want to be tagged in future posts. Yes please. Macro is just my favourite and this is the first theme I have entered. I am hoping to be brave enough to try the "get pushed" soon.
@dianeburns Hi Diane, you can do as much or as little as you wish. If you want, you can post the picture to the discussion too, as others have done, but I am also encouraging people to search by tags, so that more people might 'stumble by' each others great pics!
@archaeofrog how do you get a shot to show up on the macro-march page? Do you have to be an ACE member? I tagged one of my photos with macro-match, but it doesn't show up there so I was wondering if it's because I'm not an ACE member. Thanks.
@skstein If it is your shot of the Ladybug, it is there. If you click on the tag on your photo and it takes you to the page then you have the tag right. You have to go through quite a few pages to get to yours, I found it around page 11 but it changes as more photos are added.
Thank you Katie. I am a week behind, and was somewhat lacking in inspiration. But today I am back. I have decided to approach Macro March with a theme. I found my inspiration in a jigsaw puzzle I recently completed (http://www.amazon.com/Piatnik-5524-Spices-Jigsaw-Puzzle/dp/B000JFYW00). I love jigsaws, and I love to cook. So, today I raided my pantry, particularly my spice rack. Watch out for more in the coming days.
@skstein Hi Sandy, sorry this is a totally delayed response. No, you do not have to be Ace to show up in the 'search by tag' search. There are just a LOT of pages, so you may have to hunt for yourself. Alternately, just double-check that you spelled the tag corrected : macro-march no spaces but with the hyphen.
@alsaintsfc Hi Al, in order for your photo to appear in this discussion, you need to copy and paste all the text underneath the 'share' label (on the right-hand side of your photo's page). If you have added the tag macro-march to your photo, then it will show up when someone does a search of the tag. (There are LOTS of pages of results already though, so you may have to look for awhile.)

@mzzhope Exactly. It'll be a race to see if we get a single, growing flower before the month is up ...

I hope to buy myself a macro lens next week. Making do with a close up lens x 10 mostly at the moment. Not sure which lens to buy though.
Don't have a macro lens - have ordered some macro filters - but this little guy is about 2" big so think maybe he could count.
(I don't have a macro lens but extension tubes). Hope this will do, Katie @archaeofrog ?
Just got my macro filters (poor guys macro lens version) and had to try it out. Couldn't reach that pop of amber but liked the effect.
I'm enjoying making macros!

Well, this was the best I have come up with so far...
