Album Cover Challenge 33 Begins!

July 11th, 2014
First, a big thank you to Nikki @nikkileefor hosting Album Cover Challenge 32, and thank you to the voters who selected my Jumping Lines album - http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2014-06-25. I'm very excited to host Album Cover Challenge 33. Please think about submitting – it’s great fun, whether you know anything about music or design! Here's how it works:

1. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia hit "random article" on the top left hand side (it's a link near the top). The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your musician(s) or band.

2. Go to http://www.quotationspage.com Hit "random quotes" on the left. Scroll down to the end of the page. The last 4-6 words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your album.

3. Next, find or take a photo of yours that fits the album name and artist(s). (Remember album covers are usually square.)

4. Then, use your favorite editing program to create your cover (or, if you don't have one, Ace members have free access to picmonkey.com -- and there are many other free programs out there). You can use any image of yours for the album, old or new, but you must use your own images and do all processing for the cover during the time frame of the challenge.

5. Enter your album(s) in the challenge by tagging it with “albumcoverchallenge33”

In addition to tagging your image, consider posting your album to this thread too. It helps keep this thread alive – that means it will show up on the discussion lists to the right of the home page. It also helps us bring in a lot of participants!

To post a photo on this thread:
1) Go to your page that has the photo you would like to post.
2) Click on the three dots just below the bottom right of your picture. Find the 'Embed Code' box and right click on it to copy it then paste it in this thread.

The challenge begins Friday, July 11th, Eastern Standard Time (New York) and ends Sunday, July 20th, at 10:00 PM EST. All entries must be between those dates. If you have any questions or need help getting started, just let me know by posting to this thread. I look forward to seeing your entries AND hope that we have many first-time submitters!

I love the moment of anticipation when I select my items... here they are

Musicians: Out of the Chorus (silent movie)
Song: There are no straight lines

Quote: Everything you've learned in school as "obvious" becomes less and less obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no solids in the universe. There's not even a suggestion of a solid. There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no straight lines. R. Buckminster Fuller (1895 - 1983)

@dibzgreasley Oh, these are wonderful!!
July 11th, 2014
band = Llandovery ( a town in wales)

title = we'll change the world

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

@kali66 Kali, theses are so cool! I think this will be a fun one to work on for you -- I just love the 'title' you've gotten as it has so many possibilities! Have fun and thanks for letting me know your band/album!
July 11th, 2014
My band is Missouri Route 210. My album title is "All of the Answers." This will take some thought...
July 11th, 2014
@sjoblues Oh, that's a hard one...but intriguing to think about routes to knowledge, where answers can be found, etc. I suspect you'll have some great ideas!
July 11th, 2014
Oh, my! LOL! My band is Ohio Valley Electric Corporation
and my album title is "So many of them." Goodness! LOL!
July 11th, 2014
@homeschoolmom That is soooo funny!! It certainly leaves a lot of options open to you! I'm picturing....Ohio...electricity...corporations...valleys...and tons of them in the same image! Weird, but totally fun! I can't wait to see wait you do with this!
July 11th, 2014
Ok, I'll be first cab off the rank! It's not a super awesome effort, but I always loved this challenge!
July 11th, 2014
@tabbycat Thanks Tabitha for kicking off the challenge!! You've gotten us off to a wonderful start!

For 1st-timers -- this is a great example of format (square) and combining your image with text. You can play with font, color, etc. in most programs.
July 11th, 2014
I'm a first-timer to a challenge and also a newbie to 365. :) This sounds fun! My random band search came up with "Sticks and Stones". Name of my album is "What It Seems To Be". This is definitely outside the box for me! :)
July 11th, 2014
@mhuntphotography I'm so glad you're participating!! This is a totally fun challenge as really, anything goes as long as it's square, image, and text! I love sticks and stones - I'm guessing you'll have great ideas for the background for the band. What it seems to be allows you to be pretty open about interpretation, I would think. Just have fun with it -- if you type in tags for earlier challenges (e.g., albumchallenge32, albumchallenge31 -- or something like that, sometimes there is a dash between the words and numbers, so just play around with your search), you'll see lots of different types of responses.

Thanks taffy, and I'm excited to join in this time, so here goes:

Band:Bellanca

Album title: You cannot be to conservative

I have an idea for this, well an event coming up, that would be perfect, although I'll be flirting with the deadline, might be a sleepless night
July 11th, 2014
@taffy Thanks Taffy! I look forward to having some fun with it!
July 11th, 2014
@nikkilee Oh, I'd say go for it!! As long as you have the idea, I'll be you can pull it off in time. Not worth losing sleep over -- you want to look good for the event!
July 11th, 2014
This is my first time joining in on this and I am excited! Thanks for hosting, Taffy! This sounds so fun! @taffy And I loved your cover for the win!

Band: Black Salamander
Album title: A choice is all that's left for him.

Here is full quote: "A man is too apt to forget that in this world he cannot have everything. A choice is all that is left him." by H. Mathews
July 11th, 2014
@skjgraphics Wonderful draws -- this should be fun for you. Remember, it's the last four words, so your album title is "All That's Left for Him" (you don't need to count 'for' because your title wouldn't make sense if it's just "that's left for him". It's up to you whether to count prepositions. I don't if it means it's nonsensical, and do when the last four words will work. Good luck and remember, the goal is to have fun.

@kali66 Love it Kali! Thanks for posting!
July 12th, 2014
July 12th, 2014
@hippiechick13 Very cool interpretation. Light painting? I like the processing and the idea of what one might see if never had seen before.
July 12th, 2014
@taffy thanks Taffy! a little icm to top off a Friday night :-)
July 12th, 2014
Im going to give this another go, so.....

Band: The Dark Side of the Sun http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Side_of_the_Sun_(TV_serial)#/random

Album: no preparation is thought necessary.
From: Politics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary.
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894)
- More quotations on: [Politics]

So here goes, stay tuned :)

July 12th, 2014
@zosimasy Oh, what fun your quote is!
July 12th, 2014
@izzydacupcake Ah, a fabulous image and your font is so clever mirroring the idea of the 'other' way.
July 12th, 2014
@taffy Thank you!!

Lavinia Greenlaw (poet! perfect). :-)
"Measure of thy Desire."

Dwell not upon thy weariness, thy strength shall be according to the measure of thy desire. - Arab Proverb

Working on mine right now. It has been forever since I did a challenge.
July 12th, 2014
@hayleymolloycook What a wonderful combination of draws! This will be fun to see what you do with it. I do love this challenge.
July 12th, 2014
@mhuntphotography Gosh, amazing!! So I'm imagining Sticks and Stones are both nicknames for the front men and that's how they named the band. Fun to make up backstories! And the blues feel of the image goes so well with the name of the album.
July 12th, 2014
July 12th, 2014
@hayleymolloycook Wow -- what a powerful image! And at a more mundane level, I really like your choice of font. How intriguing! Do you know viewing on this image is restricted so it isn't showing up in the tag images which is what I use for the final selections. If you can't fix it, I'll make myself a note to use this one in the decision-making, but it means I can't add it to the list if it's one of the finalists.

Artist - Jack L. Anson
Quote - Society, my dear, is like salt water, good to swim in but hard to swallow. - Arthur Stringer, "The Silver Poppy"

Hopefully I can come up with something suitable!

First one! Have an idea for another later in the week... such a great quote this time

Group: Out of the Chorus (silent movie)
Song: There are no straight lines.

July 13th, 2014
@salza This will be a challenge but a fun one. "But Hard to Swallow" has a lot of different interpretations -- have a good time with this one!
July 13th, 2014
@dibzgreasley What great fun -- love the color and the font -- and the way you've run the text across the diagonal.
July 13th, 2014
Well....it was fun playing around.
(Anybody know why on 365 site the yellows look "greener" than they do on my computer?)

July 13th, 2014
@houser934 I don't know about the color, but the tones look just fine on my computer. What an intriguing cover -- I love the sculpture at the base of it!
July 13th, 2014
Alternate version:
July 13th, 2014
@houser934 Interesting difference -- I kind of prefer this one -- I think the 'z' in the background brings out an emphasis on the face and the word, challenge, which adds to the overall marketing sense that an album cover usually has, though subtly. I also like the lighter colors.

@homeschoolmom Lisa, this is so fun! I live the vibrancy!

@taffy Thank you! Our students really let loose with the senior pranks this past school year!
July 16th, 2014
@ryanarra2 So clever for the words, and the color and use of yellow across the feet was a great idea!
July 16th, 2014
@taffy thank you :)
July 17th, 2014
My first Album Cover Challenge! I had fun! I got "Secrets of Lost Empires" and "indispensable part of happiness" (click picture for a deeper explanation of my thought process)
July 17th, 2014
@vankrey Great image to fit the quotes, Michael!
July 18th, 2014
