"F" word - your thoughts

June 21st, 2015
Hey guys
last weeks F-Word - FASHION didn't really get going - only two entrants - not sure if it was the theme - the time of year or what - would love your thoughts about the best course of action,
Annie

@annied
Hey Annie
I got the feeling when I hosted a few weeks ago, that interest in the weekly F word was dying out. So I don't think it was your theme, just a general thing. See what others think, but I did ask the question in my thread too.

I've noticed that there seem to be a number of challenges that have fizzled out and not sure why - tag challenge, WCYS, song title etc, so maybe its even wider than this?

@dibzgreasley I have noticed to - I think there is so much happening on here that sometimes the thread often disappears before people get a chance to see it and/or sometimes a bit more time and a few reminders are needed. Maybe reaching out to newbies to let them know what is around too.

@annied @dibzgreasley I'll admit I've not done a challenge in a while but..... I have also got the impression they are not being done as much as they were say this time last year.... No idea though why....I always mean to then forget!
June 21st, 2015
. @annied @newbank I have not done challenges (though did manage mundane-abstract) for a while either, I think Annie has the answer they disappear too quickly, reminders would be good. Let's not give up on them as challenges are good when the phojo is struggling to emerge.

Word of the day does not seem to be as popular as it was either. I do find that when the notifications of challenges/themes disappear from the Latest Discussions panel on the right of this screen that it's incredibly difficult to locate them again. So, if I've forgotten to bookmark them, I usually don't feel it's worth the hassle looking for them.

@quietpurplehaze yes sometimes it is a challenge finding them again
@barneyone will try and think of a solution
June 21st, 2015
@annied I have noticed that the get-pushed challenge has a lot fewer people participating than it did at the beginning of the year when I started. I wonder if it's perhaps the time of the year. I do love the challenges though. They really have helped me to keep me going.

@annied I love the variety of challenges on 365, even if I don't always enter. I think it's great to have them, and I guess it doesn't matter if not many people enter a particular one. Entering challenges has certainly enhanced my photography and given me loads to think about, which I really appreciate. I do agree with Hazel @quietpurplehaze that it can be difficult to find them again once they're off the sidebar and maybe this can be addressed?

things always go a bit quiet in the latter months compared to the beginning of the year when everyone is keen and lots of people starting out, participation tends to fizzle out...there is an f-word for you :)
June 21st, 2015
I think it's the time of year when things slow down naturally... That said, I really enjoy the challenges generally because I am at a point where I am so short on ideas, but I liked the F challenge more when the words being chosen were a tad obscure...
June 21st, 2015
@northy i liked the obscure words too - chose fashion this time as I thought it would be an easier one to try and draw more people in - didn't work lol
@kali66 keep on trying through the lull then?

Sorry to hear that "F" word is Frack up & Faaaaading:(--I agree too many themes and challenges goin on here-maybe we can give it a break:)
June 21st, 2015
@joemuli @annied I agree people have so much going on. I am happy to host for awhile or in awhile if you Guys decide. Maybe make it run longer 2 weeks instead of 1. Wish there was a way to click on the challenges that were going on and that you were participating in on your project...they do get lost ...happy to help.

@nanderson I actually think one week works... Keeps it fresh ;p. Mostly just need to remind people... But really, I think it's the time of year... Went back a couple years and in both 2013 and 2014 I think I was kind of at loose ends in June... Busy at work with trying to get all sorts of things done before people started taking summer vacation, year end stuff for kids at school, plus getting ready for the kids to go to camp... I can imagine others being in a similar boat...

I also wonder if it has something to do with the time of year. Northern hemisphere folk are prepring for summer and us down south are getting ready to hibernate! I have also noticed a general trend with less and less people entering any of the challenges. I seems that a number of the folk I am following are lacking mojo, some are not even keen to do a challenge to see if that will help.

I think the time of year has a lot to do with it but also it seems to be much more difficult to locate the challenges than it used to be. When I use a tag to search for a particular challenge it gives me no responses under the 'discussion' heading. I can still find the entries under the 'photos' heading but can't get back to the main thread to get the basic info about the challenge.
June 21st, 2015
@quietpurplehaze @nanderson @pistache
I used to struggle to find the challenges and I also wish there was a way of finding all the current challenges easily.
So I created myself a 'Challenges' document on my computer with a small calendar showing when things started and ended and a link to each of the current challenges I was doing, which I copied from the URL.
It has really helped me keep on top of things - not always, but mostly.

I just haven't had time. I would have loved to participate (especially since we had a word I didn't have to Google to know the definition! LOL!), but just been too busy.
June 21st, 2015
I enjoy the f word contest as I was one that entered. I think you should either declare a winner of the two so another contest could be started, or start a new contest yourself and make it last thru a week from Wedneday. I am looking forward to trying again.

@dibzgreasley

I'm impressed with your organisation, Debs! I always do shopping lists of course for the supermarket and make menu plans for the week but had not thought of extending that to 365.
June 22nd, 2015
@dibzgreasley @quietpurplehaze
I bookmark - you are a clever cookie Debs - I don't write lists for shopping unless there are a couple of things I must remember lol and even then .......hahahaha
June 22nd, 2015
@annied

I bookmark on 365 too Annie - WHEN I remember to do it!!!!!

@dibzgreasley @newbank @barneyone @quietpurplehaze @whimsicalgrateful @pistache @kali66 @northy @joemuli @nanderson @salza @gardencat @homeschoolmom @kathyboyles

Thank you all for you input - much appreciated
I will announce @kathyboyles the winner of this one. Kathy - over to you :) good luck!!!!!
June 22nd, 2015
@quietpurplehaze and if you don't it is a task to find some of them again lol
June 22nd, 2015
@annied

Yes, that's my main gripe - but then I know nothing about organising a website!

Last time when I failed with 365 Project, I tried to follow a Theme most of the time. Word of the Day , I think. It was at times very hard to get a photo to match the words , although it did make me go out there and attempt to photograph different subjects. At the moment this time around I am just enjoying the Flow Free approach, where I can upload a photo each day about anything , mainly though something which happened on each day.

The F-word is fun to do especially for obscure words like some of here already said. This can also be the time that either (a) others might have higher priorities than joining a challenge (b) since it is summe/winter, people might have other ideas for their photos but unrelatable with the challenge for the week.

Annie, let me know if you need help advertising this theme challenge to the newbie.
