Thanks to @not_left_handed for hosting the WWYD-154 challenge. The beautiful scene offered lots of possibilities.
For this round, I’m going to reverse it a bit…and offer you a cute critter with no context. See how you can make our friend SHINE in your own interpretation of the photo. All interpretations are welcome…serious, humorous, abstract, “artistic” or just plain good editing.
The challenge will run for two weeks from Sunday April 16th, 2017 to the morning of Sunday, April 30, 2017 - EDT, USA. I will select some finalists, and voting will take place thereafter.
DIRECTIONS:
- Save the starting image on your computer. NOTE: If you select the “Sizes” under the right-side menu and scroll down to the ORIGINAL option you can copy and paste to your browser or download a higher resolution version of the photo..or follow the link at the bottom of this post.
- Upload the photo you edit to one of your albums and tag it WWYD155
- Please add your image to this discussion thread to keep the topic “alive.” (Go to your edited photo, click on the arrow by your comment and fav numbers, copy the "embed" code on the left, and paste it In the comments field on this thread.
- Multiple entries are allowed.
- There are no editing rules. Edit the starting image any way you’d like. No editing software on your computer? No problem – go to a site like Picmonkey and upload/edit your pic for free. You won’t be able to use all the features but there are plenty you will be able to use.
Please use these WWYD Challenges to push yourself to try new editing techniques! If you’re just beginning work on tonality, color control, curves, detailing, sharpening, gradients and other effects. As you get more familiar with all the editing tools you can add things like dodge and burning, layers, masking and textures. As you push yourself even more move to image extractions and full compositions. Remember to keep pushing and learning, and most of all have fun along the way!
I cannot enter, but I thought I'd share a PicMonkey edit....there are lots of special effects in there to play with (if you haven't had a good excuse to try it out, now is a good time...
@blueace Not sure what you are asking. The WWYD challenges have been going for a long time. I think originally, they were meant to see how different people would edit a given photo. Over time, it appears that people have taken it as an opportunity to experiment with more radical editing techniques, so that sometimes--like this time--only a portion of the original photo remains. I picked the lizard to accentuate that. Previous contests gave a setting and people added elements; this time I'm giving the element and people are adding settings. Personally, I miss the simpler version and may, sometime in the future, consider starting up a separate thread.
In the meantime, I don't expect anything: I offer up the lizard as material. I'm hoping that some people choose to join us and have fun trying their hand at editing--in any form. I'll pick out some pictures where I think the final image looks good, people will vote, and then the challenge will be in the hands of the next host.
@robz Thanks so much! I played about with out of bounds few years back and this was the ideal opportunity to see if I remembered how to do it. I didn't so had to dig out very old instructions too. Am so happy you like it!
@fbailey Oh good - no doubt about it - now that you've started using it again you won't be able to stop. Being able to create interesting things after you've taken the photo seems to be quite addictive. I'll look forward to more great images! Cheers

I like that "overlay" effect...very cool.
Thanks for your submission!

Not sure if I've got the right link, but here goes!
