new technique challenge: vintage

April 3rd, 2018
thanks to everyone who participated in the last challenge, and to @northy for hosting, and to anyone who so kindly voted for my blurry london cyclist ... i was so thrilled to win this challenge!

for this round i've chosen the theme of vintage. have a think about creating a vintage image, whether by using film, or editing, or having a go at some of the tricks that are mentioned in the links below. the idea of smearing vaseline on my lens makes me come over all faint, but i would stretch a stocking over it quite happily (indeed, i think i did, for a previous technique challenge). you might consider what kinds of subject would work for a vintage treatment, and how you would compose the shot. textures work well on these photos as they add scratches and dust for an old-style effect. many processing packages have vintage filters which you can then tweak to create the look you want

here is some info on vintage editing in lightroom, and how to get that vintage look in-camera:

i suppose vintage technique mostly in choice of subject, composition and tone rather thaneffects - but perhaps that will do :o)
