Find the Beauty that Surround Us

June 7th, 2018
Thank you for voting for my Broken Window shot. There are always lots of great shots submitted and the competition is tough so it is a real honour to get short-listed let alone win this fabulous challenge.

That means I am your host for the next EOTB challenge! Thank you to Debs @dibzgreasley for hosting the previous challenge and creating this wonderful challenge profile that I have just copied and pasted.

The world is full of small wonders which we overlook each day because we are used to what surrounds us. Some of those things are beautiful and others not so. Beauty is all around. David Bailey said:

“It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary.

Here is a description of the challenge:

Jeff Walker, who started this challenge quoted Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (who is credited with coining the phrase in 1878) "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

The aim of this challenge is to capture something most people would not consider to be beautiful or interesting and find a way to portray it so that it comes across differently and aesthetically. Transform the ugly into something full of wonder!

You can achieve it any way you wish.

This is a great challenge to help with composition and lighting skills. The way you compose the shot or the way you use light will usually bring out the beauty of your subject. It will also help you look at your surroundings differently. It is not a matter of finding something to photograph, but finding a way to photograph something that makes photographing it worthwhile.

There is no specific item or theme for this challenge, but the subject you photograph has to be something that, if people were watching you taking the shot, they would be wondering what on earth has possessed you to photograph something which seems so ordinarily, plain, bland, boring, ugly, etc.

It's not an post-processing or editing (ETSOOI) challenge so a bit of editing is okay, but please don't overdo it.
