It is always difficult to choose finalists for a challenge. If you've ever hosted one you know what I mean! This round of the Black and White Challenge was no different. The goal this time was to use black and white as a medium to "make something new look old". Black and white has an unusual ability to do this as you'll see in the different and varied subject matter below. To help me narrow down the 32 entries into a list of finalists I used the following criteria:
1) Was it a true black and white? (This ruled out those images that had more sepia in them than black and white.)
2) Is the subject "new"? There were some beautiful entries of old things in black and white but the challenge here was to really throw something new back in time and make it look like it belonged there.
3) Does the photo have the look of an older photo (vintage, retro or antique) even though the subject is clearly something current?
Even with that criteria it was still a tough job and in the end I decided to offer you 6 options! But before I get to those I wanted to post an honorable mention for the sheer creativity of twisting my challenge into something really fun-
Katy @grammyn made something old look really modern! Her beautiful piano is quite old but this shot brings it happily into the 21st century. So while it didn't quite fit the criteria I thought you should see it.
Congratulations! Your excellent and creative entries have earned you a spot in the Black and White Challenge 40 vote off.
Thanks for including mine :D
