PLEASE SUPPORT THE BRAVE EGYPTIANS

February 1st, 2011
ANNOUNCEMENT: 21.20 GMT Mubarak to see elections in September, won't stand but says he will die on Egyptian soil. The 2 million protesters adamant they will march on his palace. Will the 70,000,000 Egyptians at home go with the President or the protesters?

The 1st of February is a tumultuous day for Egypt and the world. The March of the Million in Tahrir Square is a FANTASTIC celebration of democracy that brings tears to the eyes. I have dedicated my 1st February 365 image to Egypt - I CHANGED THE DATE ON MY 1ST FEB PIC I'D ALREADY TAKEN AND REPLACED IT WITH AN INTERNET PIC OF THE MILLION MARCH IN EGYPT. Please do the same and tag it so that when our Egyptian 365ers are able to get back on line they can see they had our support during their absence. There's a link to a continuous news stream at the bottom.

2 million protesters on the streets of Cairo alone, plus Alexandria, Aswan, Sinai and Suez there are 100s 1000s. MOMENTOUS. The government in Tunisia has fallen and today in nearby Jordan following demonstrations the government has also gone. There are demonstrations in Yemen and Algeria too - five Middle Eastern countries where they have never dared to do this before. Wonderful ...and frightening too, but it is the process of democracy,,,,

@niara BRILLIANT - so fantastic that we spread the word. It is MEGA exciting what is happening. Mine were taken too long ago on the old SLR... They are all packed away in boxes. Getting out the pictures of a country we love and which hosted us is a great way to show support.... I hope it will make PP! XXX

Lets hope that Egypt can become the TRUE beacon of democracy in the Middle East.

@vikdaddy THANKS SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THIS. The Tunisians gave them the courage to take to the streets - Tunisia, Algiers, Yemen, Jordan as well have all been out on their streets but Egypt is the most important. Others must follow. Thanks Vikdaddy.

In the spirit of this post, I'd like to direct readers to Herbierios, from Cairo, and
Dalia ElMaghraby. 365 has shrunk our planet, bringing our hearts closer together. May the unrest there today be resolved peacefully and to the benefit of Egyptian citizens.

@ldpaul Thank you so much for supporting this... Do you have links to the pages of Egyptian 365ers... I think Clarissa detailed a good few and I wlll cut and paste them to here, as leaving message of support there is so important. Here is Heba's and she posted the first shot of what is happenin: Here's Heba's project: http://365project.org/snowball/365/2011-01-25#comment-2137064

I so want to hear they are all OK and to hear them drunk with good news of a new era for their country.

There is now a twitter page being updated with comments from people within Egypt. Internet is still down, but Google and Twitter worked together to set up a system so people can call an international number and leave a message. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12332850

@miranda Yes, it is very importantly strategically. It's good that the people of one of the giants of the middle east protested in this fashion. Israel needs a counter-balance.

@wormentude @vikdaddy HUGE THANKS. Rachael brilliant. I am going to put a link here from my page so people can see you comments and links.

I think this is a wonderful idea Miranda. I've got to say that the coverage of this news in the Mexican media has been rather poor. Photojournalism should be about transmitting people's struggles, pain, challenges. However, it can also be about sharing the "humane" side of conflict, war, civil protest, famine, etc. This, in my opinion, is one of the things that makes a true photojournalist. The terrible restrictions placed on media and communication tools is appalling. Yet, I have been able to follow through the BBC, the Financial Times and even the Washington Post, a less sanguinary, violent version of the conflict. Sure, one can see the protests, the clashes between the police and the protesters, but one can also see that there has been a real effort amongst the civilian population to help each other. There are groups of volunteers being formed in each neighborhood, wearing white bandanas or cloth tied to their arms, working together to prevent more pillages, more crime, more unecessary violence and crazy riots. Christian Egyptians and Muslims are united in and for this cause. Military convoys allow them to march through the cities and voice their opinion. I hope their march for peace today will reflect this unity of hopes and voices:) May they keep fighting for their freedom, for the right to march out and change their country, their lives!

@amberwings As always said with heart Juliette. I am so excited about this, the pace with which it has happened and the empowerment it is unleashing. I just pray (in a non-aligned way) that the Egyptians and all others across the Middle East get the freedom they are risking their lives to stand up for, and that they don't get some even more repressive regime. Wonderful. Thanks for supporting this.

@ldpaul Thanks for that Linda

Miranda thank you for your continued awareness campaign. I love community of 365 and as mentioned prior it has really shrunk our world and so many of our friends are directly affected by what is going on. I will start some FAVing!

@doramendes Thank you.
@andifree Thanks Andy. You are lovely Ten fav in a matter of hours wasn't enough to get that pic to the pp - very thoughtful and supportive of Martin @spaceman to suggest it. Better to have a go though than sit in the dark.

@miranda @amberwings @individuality_a @hellcat @doramendes @andifree I truly can't thank you all enough :)

It's truly uplifting to know that so many have you on their minds and are praying for your safety.
Can't put my gratitude into words. :)

@swagih @almohab Please - no thanks. One human being to another. Just thought, whatever position you took on the situation and whatever you felt when you reemerged from the communications black-out, that you should know people cared. Inspired by what took place in Egypt and by all the lovely messages here.
February 2nd, 2011
@swagih @almohab I agree with @miranda ... in my own perspective, we are all one family.

@swagih @almohab
So, so sad - why, when the army said it was there to protect people, today people with Molatov bombs on camels and horses were allowed into Tahrir square when yesterday they were stopping people going in with arms. A Chatham House Expert (an international think tank on the Middle East) says an interim government is the only way that stability will be restored. Whatever it will take to restore it, I hope it happens soon. Egypt is filling every news bulletin. Everyone is talking about it. The world is watching. You are not alone. Thinking of you guys. If you want any links to the news we are getting here, let us know.

It seems like yesterday's pic has made the popular page today:) I truly hope these lovely sentiments will grow, strengthen and keep reaching our Egyptian friends! peace & light. @miranda @swagih @almohab
