Setting up a photo site on WordPress. Any suggestions for templates, plug-ins etc. from anyone who has a site?

My site is www.zosimas.com using wordpress blog. I'm just using a basic template though, although I've been wanting to improve it so I am curious what others have to say here as well.

I have a WordPress blog, although it is mostly quilting with a side of photography. I am using the theme Twenty Fourteen, and one of the things I like about it is it's quite photo friendly. I also like this theme for having a magazine appearance to it. This theme is also easy to use plug-ins and widgets.

Comparing Charles' site and mine, I would say we are both using Twenty Fourteen. This is probably the 4th or 5th template I've had over the past 6-7 years, and it's by far my favorite. As far as plug-ins or widgets, what you're wanting to accomplish is probably going to be a little different than what I've done.

I'm using wordpress as well. (photoaday.sudweeks.net) I'm using one of the default themes. I strongly recommend installing ithemes security -- http://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/ and configuring it the best you can. Also install the google authenticator plug-in for multi-factor authentication. https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-authenticator/.

Default wordpress is not very secure, and sites running it are frequently attacked and compromised. I trust it a little more than this guy does -- http://blog.erratasec.com/2014/05/wordpress-unsafe-at-any-speed.html - but you got to be careful when using it.

Interesting conversation. I have been thinking about creating one but @sudweeks good to add this to the discussion.

I'm already tired thinking about Wordpress...

@zosimasy @featherstone @sudweeks @aliha @mastermek thanks everyone for your suggestions. Enjoyed looking at your sites, quite lovely. LOL, Mek. WordPress makes me tired too, but I'm retiring in a few months and am looking for ways to make my photography addiction self sustaining. I sell a few things at shows, just sold a print from my FB page. The local art guild has a member who graciously hosts our sites for free and also works individually with members as a tech consultant but she is not a photographer so hoping to get some good tips here.

I use the blog for the photos I don't upload here. Although sometimes it simply serves as a weekly summary of uploads where I can categorize and tag them.

@featherstone Wow your blog looks amazing! :)
Love the quilts :)

@zosimasy Thank you, Charles...pretty nice of you to compliment, considering I'm sure quilts aren't quite your thing! I visited your site also, and very nice photos.

I get the point! I'm lucky I know how to build my own website, which I don't actually have. Good luck with your photo hobby!
