online courses

Hi everyone!

I've loved photography for a long time but think I need a course to help me develop. I'm a full time mum to three young children so sadly I think I'll have to do something online. There are so many courses out there with mixed reviews, i was wondering if anyone could recommend one for me. I use the manual modes and shoot in raw but am very much a beginner in doing this. I'd rather do something structured than finding random tutorials on you tube.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Many thanks

Alice

Perhaps not a course, but an eBook with embedded short videos? I found Tony Northrup's "Stunning Digital Photography" to be nice easy chunks of information, in both written and short 4 to 8 minute video clips. And that way you can skip around and watch each over and over. Best $20.00 I ever spent in Photography. (And I've spent a BUNCH of money....)

Though it costs money, I like the classes that Kelby One has to offer. From time to time, there are specials on the price.

Some university's offer free online courses. In particular, photography has two aspect in learning, the technical side (i.e. how to use the camera and to capture light) and the art side (art theory like composition and such...valid for whatever medium). Most people forget about the art side when learning photography.

Some of the courses listed below covers visual art in general.

what kind of photography are you most interested in? Kelby One and Lynda.com both offer some good courses depending on what kind of photography you want to work on. http://neilvn.com/tangents/ is a great resource if you are shooting people. Almost all photography and processing information can be found for free online if you know what you are looking for but if you want a place that has it all organized for you lynda and kelby are both good. B & H Photo's youtube channel is also has some good stuff.

Also, if you go to OER Commons for Open Educational Resources (and online free courses), you can find multiple listings. I create OER, so this is a great avenue for finding free avenues! https://www.oercommons.org/browse/keyword/digital-photography

I've tried these and what I ran into is that they are ok as far as working through something on your own, but at least from what I've found the actual class was over so no one was really around the give you any advice. In the end I just decided to stick with books and youtube videos. I'd love to take a photography course sometime but they never seem to work with my schedule.
