New Artist Challenge - Galen Rowell

July 28th, 2016
Thank you Yao @yaorenliu for hosting the last artist challenge, and especially for selecting Fan Ho. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in not having heard of him before, a most excellent choice.

I was a fan of Galen Rowell’s images back when I was shooting film. Back in my analog days I had a subscription to Outdoor Photography. That is where I learned of him and also of his untimely death in a plane crash back in 2002.

You can see some of his images here:

Here’s a link to some information about him:

I know a lot of his shots are from mountains, and not everyone has a mountain in their back yard. Some of his images are more land based, all are inspiring.

The contest begins now and will run through to Noon EST August 9.

Please tag your entries ac-Galen

You may enter more than one photo. In each case, however, and when it's possible, I would appreciate it very much if you would include a link to the photograph(s) that inspired such photo.

Also, I encourage you to post your entry/ies on to this discussion page to keep it active and to inspire others. Simply click on the three dots (…) at the bottom of your photo’s narrative, copy the Embed Code and paste it on your comment here.

Whoa -- we go from Fan Ho with his B&W images to the bold colors I saw in the quick foray I made into the website you provide a link to. @northy are you gritting your teeth right now?
