Black & White Challenge - Cracks and Crevices

October 16th, 2018
Thank you to Lynn @rumpelstiltskin for hosting bw-33, and to everyone who voted for my black and white - curves photo!

I look forward to hosting bw-34. I’m at the Grand Canyon this week (though having just arrived and with rain, fog, and wind, have not quite seen it yet), but am thinking about ‘cracks and crevices’ which will be our theme. Think about cracks and crevices broadly for your submissions – what do they represent or mean and how do they add to your image? Cracks and crevices can include huge ‘crevices’ in the earth like the Grand Canyon or small cracks in, perhaps, a much loved teapot. Or a crack in the sidewalk that allowed a flower to emerge. While composition always is critical (i.e., a crack or crevice can serve as a leading line), it can also give meaning to an otherwise everyday object or evoke an emotion.

I encourage you to submit your photos. The challenge starts today, October 16th and ends October 31st. All photos must be within those dates.

Please tag your photos bw-34 and, if you are willing, add them to this thread. That keeps the thread alive and also may help give others ideas to pursue.

I am looking forward to seeing your entries!

Life's a bit chaotic round here lately, but I'll try to give this a crack (pun intended).

@markp I like the strong textures in this one, and the 'cracks and crevices' contribute to the composition in a significant way, which is great. Thanks for posting here!

I can't actually participate, but it's hard not to think of cracks & crevices -- gigantic and teeny -- when looking into the Grand Canyon.

@taffy I'm so jealous. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon but life has not permitted it. Your picture is beautiful and wonderfully different from the usual photos that are so full of color that I forget to look at the structure of the canyon walls. :-)
