New Minimalist Challenge - Optional theme : high key/low key

February 24th, 2020
Thanks to Catherine Otley @redandwhite for hosting the previous minimalist challenge. Thanks also to all who participated, voted and commented. I am honored to be the next host of this challenge. This new edition will be “minimal-9”.

The minimalist challenge is generic and open to all minimalist entries. The suggested optional theme is “High key/ Low key". This theme is not mandatory but can be used as a source for ideas and inspiration, as high key and low key techniques can be a good way to offset background details. This optional theme also offers an opportunity to submit any minimalist entry you would make to the current Black and White Challenge (Theme : High Key/Low Key) hosted by 4rky @4rky. Alternatively, you can also extend to colour photography your High Key/ Low Key skills acquired or practiced during the last week of the Flash of Red Challenge organized by Ann LeFevre @Olivetreeann.

Dates :
- Start : the challenge start is backdated to Monday February 17th, 2020 in case you want to enter a minimalist shot that you have already made since the closure of the last challenge.
- End : the challenge is open for entries until Wednesday March 25th, 2020 by midnight in your time zone.
- Shots must be taken within this time frame. Voting will take place shortly after. The winner will then host the next round and will also propose another optional theme.

Tag = minimal-9

Current entries can be seen at https://365project.org/tags/minimal-9

4 - Shadows
5 - Geometry
6 - Inside my house
7 - Light
8 – Paper
9 – High key/Low key (current challenge)

Regarding minimalist photography:

Many definitions & examples of minimalist photography are out there to consider. Here is a guideline : minimalism is indeed the art of less. As a life philosophy, minimalists focus on a few essential elements of life and cast unnecessary things aside. Same pretty much goes for this photography style. Minimalism is a style employed by many 20th Century artists, using a minimum amount of components such as color, shape, line and texture to emphasize the subject matter.

Keep effects and processing to a minimum also.

I hope you will enjoy this challenge. Looking forward to seeing your entries and hoping some new members will join in too!
