February is almost upon us and that means it’s time to take 28 days to explore black and white photography again- with just a little pop of color one special day (take a guess as to the date!). This year many of us are more restricted than others so I’ve decided to keep things as simple and broad as possible so that each person can tailor the weekly subjects to their particular circumstances. You also have the option to work with photos from your archives. Maybe there’s a shot that someone said, “This would look really good in black and white” that you’d like to experiment with or perhaps you can’t get out to capture a landscape, but you’ve got one from a trip you took that would fit the bill. If you still want to strive for a picture a day- that’s great! But if you need the wiggle room of your archives, that’s fine too.
I’ll post some instructional points from different sites and a few inspirational quotes to help spur you on each week. If you’d like to be tagged when the weekly “assignments” are posted put your @name in the comment section below.
Here’s how the month will break down:
Week 1: Feb. 1-7 Landscapes
Week 2: Feb. 8-14* Trinkets, Treasures or Trash! *On Feb. 14 we will use selective coloring for that little pop of red (hence the name Flash of Red). When your whole month is filled in, it’s really eye-catching! Details on how to do this will be included in Week #2’s instructions. This is OPTIONAL since some people don’t like SC, but as I said, it looks really good at the end of the month.
Week 3: Feb. 15-21 Portraits (This is not limited to people!)
And don’t forget, you can use your archives for any of these weekly subjects if you haven't been able to visit and be around people during the pandemic. I will probably be drawing from my own archives this week- so don't feel bad if you have to as well.
Week 4: Feb. 22-28 Abstract Elements (Texture, Patterns, Lines, Contrasting areas of light and shadow, etc.)
The tag this year will be FOR2021.
(And the challenge runs from Feb. 1, 2021 to Feb. 28, 2021 of course!)

I had a dabble at B&W a couple of weeks ago and it was mentioned that February would be dedicated to B&W so I have been saving myself. Looking forward to it as a celebration of my first year doing 365.
