My Multi-Million Dollar Studio! Pic Inside!

January 4th, 2012
Just Kidding, about Multi Million Dollar!
I live in a house with a bunch of roomates. We have a Garage accessible by all roomies. Unfortunately since I'm the newest member, I have little space in the Garage.

Here is what I have to work with and the materials I am using. Keep in mind I have very limited space and a very very worn out shoe string budget!

So here she is, as you can see I have some clamp lamps on cinder Blocks to use as "stands". I'm using CFL daytime bulbs.

The poles are from a Clothes rack you can find almost anywhere. I have two sets and use one to hang my back drop and the other for lighting stands.

These are the materials I use to diffuse/bounce light. Black & White Foam Core Boards, Tracing Paper, Clear Cellophane Wrapping Paper (used in gift baskets) I purchased a fabric shower curtain liner for a backdrop.

My Album 'set365' are all shot in this studio and with the materials you see in the photos.

This shot was actually my first image using "studio" lighting or in a controlled environemnt.

Again, I have no formal training or schooling. I just read, watch videos and talk to other people interested in Photography to expand my knowledge.

So there you have it my Ghetto, err Professional Studio set-up LOL!
I hope this inspires some of you to work with what you have or add on to it. It may not be the prettiest but works for the time being.

Great shot. That's all that matters. You inspire me to push the envelope. Thanks.

You work very well with the resources at hand. Your photos are fantastic!

One small corner of my living room is my studio. I have a table, two photo lamps (probably the only photo equipment I have other than the camera and lenses), a few backdrops ( material sale at Joanne's fabrics) and my imagination. I also collect things out of free boxes that appear on the roadside after a weekend lawnsale. That is where most of my pieces of glass (used for reflections), and many many props have come from. My bottle that I am photographing for my project was in one of those boxes :)
I like you have had no training, didn't even think to watch videos(duh probably tons on youtube) learned from looking and asking and lots of trial and error.
I would say you are doing just fine. Don't let the small space or tinier budget get you down. All great artist work with what is available, (the term starving artist is very close to the truth.) and most can make something great out of a little of nothing.

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing! I've been complaining about my lack of being able to find a suitable studio space to rent, but you've inspired me to get my bedroom more geared up until that happens!

Awesome photo. You are indeed an inspiration. I just point and shoot my photos. I do not have a special set up and and hope to learn from those like you. What a great way to share and learn along with other resources we have online. A lot of life happens and we capture it also.

@aj1268 Thank you very much, I try the very best I can. :)

@shuterfly isn't it great what we canuse and find! I like your tip about different glasses and such at yard sales. i'll keep my eyes open! thanks again for the awesome compliments! We all are starving for more education and experience. :)
i'm gonna check out your feed in a moment.

@tabbycat I'm glad this revved you up and you're welcome! I'm sure you will be able to make use with what you have at the moment. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'm sure everything in the pics totaled to 50-100.00 us dollars. Depends on what you have laying around.

@darsphotos Thanks a bunch Darlene, point and shooting is awesome as well! i am honored you all found a bit of inspiration in my post. I'm still learning and still somewhat new to photography, and don't mind sharing my experiences/techniques.

The internet can be a vast ship of knowledge if used properly.
The beauty of this site/community is we all have a common interest and heart for photography. As an art, therapy, the possibilites are limitless!

Great set up :) I won't look down on my own set up anymore. You're so right, make the best of what you've got ;) I actually used my lounge with a sheet over it yesterday to photograph my shoe..... makes me wonder about what goes on behind the scenes of other peoples pictures.
January 4th, 2012
@simplysnapped Thanks!!! Yes I wonder that too. It would be great to see what goes on in the making of photos.

@snaggleture
Your ghetto studio. I love it. lol. Amazing that the wine glass shot was produced in that setting. Very impressive!
January 4th, 2012
@snaggleture Haha that's awesome Ronnie! You're lucky to have a space where you can keep it set up. I'm on a similar budget and use tons of aluminium foil as my reflectors. I'm always moving around though so I haven't had a fixed studio yet... =/ But from now on, I'm gonna call it my ghetto studio ;)

love seeing ideas on how to use the spaceu have on a tight budget ..... i too have limited space and non existent budget lol ! ..... almost every pic i take is done in my kitchen with a black towel as the backdrop and occasionally a lamp for extra lighting lol

I love your set up, I'm just playing with two desk lamps and a variety of random household objects at the moment trying to get the right balance.

I have a childs deck chair that I'm modding into a foldable soft box that will sit right on top of my bendy desk lamp.

I've been hanging around here quite a lot lately... http://www.diyphotography.net/

This thread is inspiring!!!! I have this horrible den that is my office--its so terrible I'm the only one willing to work in there, so I have it all to myself. I'm seeing it a whole new light now as my future studio! Thanks for sharing!!
