Snow Pictures

February 5th, 2012
First heavy snow of the year and struggling to shoot it! Pictures are lovely they just seem exceedingly noisy/grainy? Any ideas as to why this is? I've been Googling my little heart out but still yet to find a definitive answer. I tried switching from full manual to landscape mode, this pretty much solved the the problem, but in doing so have lost a lot of the finer detail that was present in manual. Is this.something I'm just going to have to put up with?
And it's a very overcast miserable day no brilliant blue sky! This is Great Britain!

I've had a quick squizz at your pics and I suspect you've got your ISO tuned a bit high. Try getting it down to about 200- maybe 400 at the outside. Gorgeous shots BTW

There are some really good photos here, well done everyone. What I would like to know is, how do you upload a photo to these discussion groups?

Go to the photo you want to show, to the right of it is says "Share". Just copy and past the code into your comment for discussion.

@elorac1945 Hi Carole : )) You go to the pic you want to add, one you've already downloaded on 365, look to the right hand column and down a bit theres a share link, you copy that and paste it into the reply box. : ) x

My 13 year old son actually took this of me! I confess to making the colours brighter!

Try lowering your ISO to >400, 100 would be best if you can get a decent shutter speed.

Took this earlier on ISO 200 :)

If you want to capture the snow falling, it's best to use a flash:

I actually added grain to this, originally shot at ISO 400, for 15 seconds.

We live in the flatlands, don't get any snow, so you have to look up to see our snow.

I tried snow settings and programmable, the snow being so bright and light, I was getting away with ISO 100 because it was so bright even though it was so dull.

and this night shot is only using ISO 200 - the blurriness here is the falling snow.

I also caught falling snow in some headlights here
