This guy is really straight foward to the point. He teaches you in a simple manner a lot about using creatively flash in photography. Topic to topic with real-life examples in the middle. Very very good.
>>> BOOK:
Hot-shoe diaries by Joe McNally
This book is amazing. The examples are mind-blowing. There is no one that i know in the world who uses flash units like this guy. He is passionate and this is not a book of how-to. This is a book of ideas, challenges and how to overcome that. It's more a book of a wonderful career than a book about technique. And very well-written too.
I'm currently reading The Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman. It is HIGHLY recommended. I've read a heap of photography books and this is definitely one of the best in terms of structure and content.
I agree you need to take more pictures, but if you are self taught and have no photographer friends - reading books and learning about new styles and different photographers can only help you grow
I've read the Bryan Pattersons books which taught me a lot and The essential lighting manual by Chris Weston
Scott Kelby's books are beautifully simplistic, not one for going into the pure technical jargon of a situation but more as if he was stood next to you and told you what you need to do to get the shot.
