Camera Hacks

No, not a comment on any photographers. I am talking about unconventional means and methods in relation to photography.

The String Monopod is the inspiration for this thread. A simple bolt or eye hook and a string to steady your camera.

Share what you use that is repurposed or not "off the shelf"

I am going to try out the matchbox pinhole camera sometime soon.

BTW the website www.instructables.com has some great DIY projects and is actually how I found this website!

Instructables is a great place for inspiration, I use it myself.

One of my favourite hacks was for my old compact camera - a magnifying glass stuck to the lens with rubber bands to get closer for macros.

I have a extension pole for a painters roller with a mini tripod taped on the end I put the camera on timer on the end of the pole it gives me at arms length 8-10 foot of extra height. It works very well.

Sometimes, I get a strap of padded cloth with hooks on both ends, and attach it to my camera so I can wear it around my neck without needing to use my hands. I call it a "camera necklace."

Also, I put cat treats on the shutter so my kitty can take pictures. She's got an eye for close ups of people while they're sleeping.

I'm in the process of hacking a few year old 5 mpix Nikon pocket camera. I am wiring a repeat cycle timer into the shutter button. Once everything is the way I want it I will dangle it from a kite. Hopefully the first pics will be up this weekend.
