@beautifulthing do you have the holga 120? About to get one for a class and want to play first but wondering how easy it is to get developed. (And yes, I can just get chemicals if needed).
@brumbe I do, I have a 120 Holga and a 35mm one. I'm spoiled in that I have no problems getting 120 developed where I live - my local camera shop is just down from my office building. So, for me, it's super easy. :)
@beautifulthing I have to start leaving ritz and going to the place that is just a bit farther from work and home, but once it is warm it will be not a bad work.
I went ahead and got a shot with my Holga DSLR lens, on my D3000. I did some experimenting with reducing the flash power - I believe I shot this at 1/4 power, but don't quote me on that. :)

Barring that, you could also buy a Holga lens for your DSLR - either that, or a Diana lens (a camera similar to the Holga). They'd let you achieve similar results. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/762095-REG/Holga_775120_Holga_Lens_for_Canon.html
ETA: An image I shot on a Holga 120CFN - I have the Holga lens for my DSLR too, but don't seem to have those images on hand:
