No - really. According to Ken Rockwell, "FARTing helps us remember to make a strong, meaningful photo instead of just snapping away and winding up with a lot of boring, thoughtless snapshots."
Oh - it's also his abbreviation for a good, insightful creative process. :)
@beautifulthing That all fine and logical if its anything but a candid shot of people, where you have to take your chances and not lose the moment. I'm all up for FARTing, when the shot fits the bill! ; )
I think I do it all the time....even when I don't have my camera (just "the one in my head") ,,,but it's very true that you can't always FART a candid nor fast moving objects (or you need to be a bloody fast FARTer haha)
Shelly, I was FARTing all of the time without even realising it! I'm glad that now there is a smart acronym for the process that I seem to do natually all of the time. Ask my husband, he always has to wait fior me to FART when I take a photo. I totally FARTed when I took the photo of the Bleeding Hearts (Always FART when you shoot hearts, I will say proudly from now on) and when I took that photo of Florian this morning. Luckily he was distracted so I had lots of time for FARTing. From now on when I am figuring out what and how and why I am shooting and people become impatient I will loudly retort "Please, I'm an ARTIST, Let me take the time to FART!" (I love you Shelly)
Great title for a discussion thread - makes us juveniles click on it immediately. Good article - I've noticed that those who have spent time shooting film tend to FART much more ... fewer images, but definitely thought out, and then re-thought out again. Candids are obviously a bit tougher, but depending on a situation, you can observe a scene for a while and still FART quite effectively.
funny, since lomo is all the rage and they're like shoot first think after. Based on the old Kodak moment' idea of shooting fast. Funny how the advice changes. I like to just shoot quick and see how it turns-out.
So thats see how it turns-out
SHIT. fart or shit, either way we're having fun.
@chewyteeth I am just an "Old Fart" from way back, I continually Fart my way through life and photography, I am also a s-h-i-t (see how it turns out) shooter too, depending on the circumstances. I have gotten many a priceless shot while SHIT-ing, and FART-ing as well, as they seem to go hand in hand. Omg did I just say that??? Got my giggles from this thread today!!
