Whats the best way to get my photo to someone who wants to print?

Hi all. I have a friend that wants to print a large copy of one of my photos but I am not sure of the best way to get her the file w/o losing some of the quality. Does emailing take anything away from the photo that would show in a large print? She wants to print a 16x20 to hang in her house. Thank you!

Depends on the size of the file. If your camera is set to large file size, as it should be, it may take a while to email. However, if you are just sending 1 photo, it should work. Best way is probably to put photo on a flash drive or CD and give it to your friend. He/She can always return the media when they are finished with it. OR you can just order a print from your computer and have it processed and mailed directly to your friend. Hope that helps.

@jrphotoartkc Thanks Jim. My file size is set to Large. I live a bit away from her so I guess I could send a cd with the image on it, just wasnt sure if any of the quality is compromised when you email. Great idea on ordering a print and then just having them send it directly to her. Thanks so much for your reply :)

@superbeyotch I have not tried it yet, but have you heard of dropbox.com?
It is some sort of off site storage and you can give people limited access to see and I think "rip or download" certain shots. You might give it a look...I intend to.

There are websites where you can upload and then the person on the other end can download the file. You Send It is one of them I've used with continued success...www.YouSendIt.com. You could also upload the file to a company that will print it www.MPIX.com, for example) and have it sent directly to her. I've uploaded image files for people who've wanted prints and ordered the prints for them, then they pay for and pick them up at a location near them. If you have a large file, some email systems reject files over a certain number of megabytes.

I agree with MaryBeth and Shannon. There are literally scores of sites where you can upload pics and others can download: Mediafire is another and also Shutterfly.

I would just email it. Most services like Yahoo allow you to attach 25MB files so you should even be able to send Raw files. My guess is that when you friend prints the file, s/he will need to upload a high quality jpg so you may just want to send that instead of a raw file.

@espyetta @sjoblues @jrphotoartkc @chriswang @jrphotoartkc Thank you all for responding. I will definitely look into a storage/sharing website, I like the idea of keeping copies on the "cloud" too so that may just be what I am looking for. Thanks!

I live in Ontario, Canada and send my prints to Posterjack.ca. Where are you located?
