After going to a friend's baby's Christening and managing to take really disappointing photos in low light I decided to invest in a flash gun for my camera. I never use a flash so this is completely new territory for me. I wonder if anyone has hints and tips on how to use it?
My experience with flash is that it is trial and error.
The best £20-00 I think I've spent is on an of camera flash cable, as it opens up a world of possibility for lighting from different angles from high key to low key, and great shadows and contrast. Then you may want a diffuser to give you options of reducing shadow and glare.
I am sure that there are many who can offer more experience and therefore give you more constructive advice than this.
You've a K-x, yes? That's got wireless P-TTL, so get a flash that supports that, an AF 360FGZ or a Metz 50 AF-1 or some such. Then no need for a cable and you can get the flash off the camera. After that, lots of messing about with it.
Can I suggest you have a troll through some of my images as I am a heavy user of all types of speedlites and strobes.
I have also written a couple of articles. The links to these can be found my looking at my profile description, and I am always happy to answer any questions.
