Try to stop it... policing it would exhaust us. You can add a watermark of your name if you are worried. In this day and age, there are so many images available to us everyday. The only real concern is if someone does something untoward with an image.
If it's up on the net in public view, it can be stolen and there is no way to protect it. People can edit/crop out water marks - if they want your image that badly, they'll do what it takes.
The way I get around it is just not having high res copies anywhere online (the largest I upload is 800px as the longest dimension at 72dpi, which is a good resolution for online but a crappy resolution for print). That way they can download your photo - great - but not do all that much with it (except make it their desktop background)!

it is too easy to copy and paste and protect. For on-line it is best to not worry and do like @markjohnstone states "be honored"
