I want to try for the first time ever to take a family portrait of my whole family on Christmas Day. But the only problem is, is that I don't want it to be the boring photos that you see with all of the family members smiling and sitting in a group looking at the camera. I want it to be different. And the other problem is I don't have any ideas on what I should do about my problem. So I came to you guys. Could you guys give me advice, tips, websites anything???? Christms is almost here and I don't have any ideas at hand.
Or get them lined up lieing on the floor propped up on their elbows with hands under their chins, but you will have to get down low too! or all popping heads out from behind a tree. There's 3 ideas for you.
I like the ideas that Sean has those are great. The link he posted has the group on the beach you could do the same if you get snow and have the group dressed in there winter wooleys and playing in the snow together. That would be a fun shot too. Good luck Micah can't wait to see what you came up with. Happy holidays!
you can have everyone "play a part" in which everyone isn't looking at the camera.... have everyone doing something that tells a story, even if its something out of character for someone - make it fun
We have an animated angel that our daughter and her friends find creepy so last year our photo was of everyone looking at the angel with horrified expressions on their faces! We also did one where everyone was laughing and looking in different directions, hands to their cheeks, or on their bellies (good old belly laugh!), and one where we gathered around the piano pretending to sing and play instruments.
I have done things like get everyone to stand inna line tallest to shortest, oldest to youngest, etc. then have taken the same shot ten or fifteen years later. The lines always change in their order particularly tallest to shortest answers all grim can g quite a lot of fun to do and look back on
@peterdegraaff Along those lines (no pun intended!) friends of our family sent us a picture every year from when they first got married. As the years went by kids came along, then boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. They always included whoever was a partner at the time and it was funny to watch. Oldest girl with boy...he's gone next year, new guy, gone next year, new guy...guy stays, stays, bingo! Next year they're holding a BABY! Same for each of the kids, partner, then new one, then new, then stays...stays...BABY! So much fun!

Or you could get everyone in their pajamas with tousled hair and mugs of cocoa. That could be cute.
