Canon users - I have a 600D but when trying to shoot in aperture mode inside on an evening, the flash keeps popping up. Mildly frustrating, and meaning I'm shooting in CA as its the only way I can work out to switch it off. Is it possible to turn it off? I've googled to no avail!
You could set up the aperture you want on AV mode and look and see what other settings the camera sets and then switch to manual mode dialling in the settings the camera selected in AV mode?
Or you could set your desired aperture on full manual mode.
Set a reasonable shutter speed (i.e. 1/80 to freeze people indoors).
And leave ISO on AUTO. This will function more than less like your aperture mode.
That way you can concentrate on your shooting only.
Leave the calibration to the camera.
The strange thing is i have never seen the flash pop up on av mode.
And here I thought it was just me having that problem with my 600D lately. Sadly I haven't figured out a solution but hopefully someone else may have an idea :(
I've used Canons for years (although never the 600D) and have never had the flash pop up in Av mode (or P/Tv/M for that matter). Does it just happen in Av, or in any of the other modes for you?
There's a Flash Control function on Record Menu 1, I think this enables you to control the flash function. (It's the first tab on the Menu functions when you press the Menu button).
@hehe1308 I've just tried it in my kitchen which is where I was trying to use my camera earlier, and typically, it's not doing it now..but I'm sure it's done it in the other manual modes. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to control it.
Just a small note, I never use flash when in AV mode in low light. Why? that is because the flash will fire to highlight the subject but the shutter will stay open long enough to expose the background. If this is longer than 1/60 there is a very high chance I will get camera shake.
So if I have to do this I will either switch to manual or to TV.
When I get back home I will have a look at my 500D so I can remember the settings.
Amy, I've got a 550D and the flash only pops up on the green (full auto) setting, Portrait, macro and back light. On the manual settings M,Av,Tv,P have to manualy pop it up.

@cableknitdragon I'm glad I'm not alone!
I'm almost sure I'm doing something really silly, I just don't know what!
@peadar I've checked in the menu and there only seems to be the options to change it from camera to external flash.
This is not a bad thing as I would always fire my flash before I had good lens and could control light better.
