Is it possible to achive radial blur in the camera with a prime lens? The only way that I have found talked about online is to actually physically move the camera back and forth without the subject moving, but that seems pretty hit or miss. I know how to achieve this in Photoshop, but for some reason, I am pretty set on getting it in camera if possible. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks!
Try shooting in A mode, setting the aperture to 16 and having the ISO set to 100. Then just sweep the camera to the side (or whatever direction you want). That is how I achieved this shot recently: http://365project.org/amandalomonaco/365-year-2/2013-02-09
Forgive me if that is different than what you are looking to do.:) Happy weekend, lady!
@amandalomonaco yeah different kind of blur thats motion blur radial blur is this
I've only ever got radial blur using a zoom lens there may be a way of doing it with a fixed focus lens but I imagine its quite difficult.
@amandalomonaco@asrai -- Thanks for the responses, I think I will just have to do it with my zoom lens . . . I guess it doesn't really matter, but I wanted to know if it was possible! Appreciate the time!
As others have said, I can't see how you could much of a blur unless you have a relatively long shutter speed and moved forward or back from you subject, but you'd also be subjected to up and down motions as well. Your best bet would be with a zoom
Here's one I did with a zoom lens.
