So I think my memory card crapped out. When I put it in the computer, it's just fine. When I put it in my camera it keeps saying it's locked. I've tried to move the thingie-ma-jigger to different positions, I've re-formatted it, I even tried talking nicely to it. No good. It's a SanDisk.
So does anyone have any suggestions on good memory cards? I can't justify spending too much money, but I'm willing to get as close to the best as I can.
Sandisk are usually very good. I also use Kingston. I've never had a card fail. Have you puffed a bit of air into your camera card slot to make sure there's no dust there?
How long your disk lasts really depends on how much you use it. I take mine in and out of my camera several times a day. Mine tend to only last about a year. Doesn't really matter how expensive they are as to how long they last. That usually only effects how much data they hold and how quickly the upload and transfer info. SanDisk are usually fine.
@swilde I will try that...right now....and you're a genius! Thank you! I was really dreading having to buy one. @homeschoolmom Sue fixed it, but how do you know when it's really crapped out for good?
It will start giving you error messages or won't save a picture. Sometimes the little tab to protect the data breaks off or you camera or computer won't read it.
@denvern8v Here's something I am curious about: Why would you "dread" getting a new card? Isn't it just a straight financial transaction, and the way prices are dropping, not even a very large one at that. Just wondered if I am missing something?
@chapjohn As John said, the camera requires a few default folders to be created.
Personally, I seldom take the card out of the camera, uploading with a USB wired connection for all my cameras, DSLR, P&S and phone. Cords provided with the camera (usually). I have never had a card fail. Four years so far.
@chapjohn I reformated it in the computer. I tried in the camera, but it wouldn't even recognize it was there. (Sorry about my spelling) @frankhymus I have a cord. Would it read what's on the card too, or just what is on the camera's memory?
