How would you do this photo?

I just did not get the look that I wanted. What would my 365 friends have done to make this better. Thanks for help.

I'm not the greatest at that stuff, but I probably would have cropped it to a vertical shot with the boots on the lower right because I like the angle of the tile, and cut off the bottom of the shirt/dress because it adds some colors that seem to draw the attention away from the boots. But I'm not sure if that would be what you were going for.

@spikez Thank you Spikez, I thought about cutting the skirt out but was not sure. Anyone else, want to show me what you would do also?

cute shot! I love these kinds of shots. I would have done it outside on grass or cement--something that "matches" the boots better. I also would have her wear something solid colored--red dress or something? and get on her level so the shot is more straight on. I'd love to see a second attempt!!

I'd have gone vertical, too, but left just a smidge more of the skirt to help establish age and size the model.

I think I would have gone for a lower pov, a bit more light and softer focus... I think that would have given more of a sense of a child, if you know what I mean...

My daughter is substantially older than yours, but we did a similar shot a while back. It goes along with some of the suggestions above: grass, more solid skirt and a little better focal point. I like the idea of a lower POV, but I would either try to keep it clean, ie still noting but grass as a background, or, if you have to show anything else in the background, like a fence, make sure it's far off and extremely soft.

Now having said all of that, I think it's still a very cute picture.

I think this needs to be a you on your tummy shot Peggy to bring those boots to eye level. Of course this may give you background problems, Maybe head outside to a big expanse of lawn. Part of the appeal of the shot as it is, is that you don't have a wall/floor join coming in, and the lower you go the more likely this is to happen. It's a cute shot

The first thing that jumps out at me is the horizontal lines in the tiles are crooked. Everything tilts to the right. The vertical line go off to a vanishing point, that draws the eye back and up. Perhaps more skirt, or not, the age of the child is told by those cute knees :-)

Those are my thoughts.

I like the floor in this picture, and I I think I would have got a little bit more of her skirt in the photo...I think this is a lovely photo though....well done !

Little cutie. Love those little squiggly knees. Here's an example of one I took recently of my son. Definitely helps to get a lower POV and I deliberately softened the clarity to give a more dreamy childhood quality. I actually really love the little hemline of the dress but it might help as Megan mention dot have a more solid block colour

I would have called it Isibel a walk in Daddy's boots and had it were she had fell down in them. With a hardhat and a old lunch bucket in the background.

I like the concept, I would agree about the tiles being on a slant, so I might angle it some. You might want to play with it as a black and white shot. I would crop the dress out, remove all writing on the photo (it's disallowing a good angle/crop at the bottom and it distracts from the subject). If you take again, I agree with others about POV and perhaps the backdrop (outside might be better).

I was so hoping @trishaclancy would post that photo. As soon as I saw this post I thought "Well I have seen a similar shot, and it was perfect"

@jasonayer I really like this shot you have posted as well.

I don't know if you have to crop out the dress or not. Although in @trishaclancy 's photo you can see how the simplicity in background and clothing does help with the strength of intimacy and emotion in the shot.

The shot is already there though, and I think that conversion to black and white might be a good idea. Gets rid of the brighter conflicting colors of the clothing, desaturated the blue tone of the natural light around the boots which I find distracting. But, black and white always works for sentimental bump up. So, I would think about black and white, bump up grain a bit to age the photo, maybe even add in a slight vignette around the edge... and if that looks bad --- crop off the skirt.

It really is a cute shot though. And i Like it as is. Just answering the question.

@jasonayer Thank you Jason for showing me this photo. I love it. I am planning on doing it of her when she is grown lol.

@spikez @wildernesswillie @darylo @adambralston @jasonayer @darylo @adambralston Thank you so much for all the idea's. I really wanted these suggestions and the help to make it better. And I appreciate you all helping. I will try all of them to see what I can do with it. Thanks again.

@mlulu191 I will try a second attempt for sure. Thanks for suggestions.

certainly don't have the experience/expertise as others above .. but one thing I would do maybe is to switch to sepia or b/w ... just to get the boots and the tiny feet the attention with no color distraction ... also adds to the timelessness :-)
